Getting started Fire Cavern: SeeD pre-exam Dollet: Becoming a SeeD Timber: Helping the Forest Owls Galbadia Garden: A memorable meeting Deling City: The parade

GFs: Diablos
Items: Magical Lamp, Timber Maniacs x2, Pet Pals x2, Girl next door magazine, Buel Card

Woo! Woo! You’re a SeeD now! (And who exactly cares?) Anyway, let's go on now, shall we. What do SeeDs do? Exactly. Work and be important by doing missions. And that's why the serious part of life will start now: Talk to Cid, blah blah blah, next mission in Timber, shut up and give me items, blah blah blah, talk to him again and he’ll give you a magical lamp. In which you’ll find a GF if you use it. One of the hardest bosses in the game, to be exact: beware of

Name Description Location HP Mug Weakness Draw Reward
Diablos A mysterious GF living in another dimension. Uses a powerful gravity attack called Gravija. Magical Lamp (your item inventory :P) 800x + 800 (1600- 80,800) N/A Wind Cure/ Cura/ Curaga, Demi; Lv.>30: Holy, Flare Diablos Card, G- Returner x8/ G- Returner x8/ Hero x4, 20 AP

Hard to recommend a strategy here. Diablos uses Demi spells to put your characters in a yellow state in no time, then he quickly uses a physical attack to wipe them out. Don't wait until later in the game, get his as soon as possible because he won't get easier anyway (rather more difficult) and he's a useful GF with just as useful abilities. The best thing you can do is draw the Demi- spell and throw it right back at him until he's weak enough to be killed with GF. Or you could just use your strongest GF (which should be Shiva by now, she levels up very fast at the beginning and will thus probably be your strongest GF for a while). Just don't forget to heal. Ever. Limit Breaks are kind of useless here, because you won't like to see your characters in a yellow state for too long. You need one or two characters constantly healing and the third member pound him with strong attacks- and a good portion of luck. And a lot of time, of course. Don't be frustrated if you don't manage to beat him the first time…

Oh well, moving on. Collect the Timber Maniacs in the hotel and at the train signal, if you're done with business buy a ticket, get on the train, talk to Zell, receive a Pet Pals Vol.1 and- collapse.

Now a new sequence will take place; party and location will be changed. You can't choose which party member will resemble which character yet; in later sequences you'll be able to choose which character is supposed to fight as which character in "that" world. This also means that your original character will gain all the experience points his dream character gained. In this sequence, Squall will take over the role of Laguna, Zell becomes Ward and Selphie performs a sex change and becomes Kiros. Square has been quite creative with their character names so far.

Walk northeast through the fields and board the truck. In Deling City, go to the Galbadia Hotel and play through the bar scene. Then follow Julia as Laguna to her room and talk to her (yes, ONLY A LITTLE TALK). After a short while your original party will awake in the train.

Arrival at Timber. Answer the man "But the owls are still around“, or better yet don’t and he will get hit by the train. Ha-ha, sucker. ^^ Buy some pet pals at the pet shop, then go to board the train (go south). Talk to everyone, then go to the back of the train to meet your next addition to the party- Rinoa. Yes, that’s the bitch you danced with. Kick her dog, then head back to the others to have a briefing. It might sound complicated what they tell you, but everything in this game is explained in a complicated way although it’s easy, so actually you don’t have to pay attention and just do what they say in the sequence afterwards :P

Before you do anything else, return to where you met Rinoa (NOT the garden, fool. I meant the back of the train) to find another pet pal magazine. Now you should have around 4 of those, collected in a few minutes. It’ll take a while until you will get the next issues. Read all of them, then select something Angelo is supposed to learn in Rinoa’s status menu and talk to Watts. You’ll find yourself on the roof of the train. Now, if you have good reflexes you can just rush onward without paying attention to the guards, climb down the ladder, enter the first three codes, then go up the ladder, run to the next one and repeat, and voila, you’re done. If you keep screwing up with the codes though, watch out for the guards. If a guard sees you it means you suck and you have to start over. Use L1 and R1 to look to the right and left and see if the guards are coming. If they are, press up to jump on the roof and wait until they’re gone. If you complete both sets successfully on the first try, your SeeD- rank will rise by 1. Great, you did it! Now, heal, junction, sort your items and menus and whatnot and get ready for a fight. Talk to Rinoa, then pay the president a visit.

Name Description Location HP Mug Weakness Draw Reward
Fake President President Deling's double. Attacks in a strange way, but not very strong. However... 56-778 Presidential Train N/A N/A Cure N/A
Gerogero A monster that posed as President Deling. Attacks with its deformed arms and status attacks. max. 3650 Presidential Train Phoenix Down x2 Holy, Earth, Fire Berserk, Double, Esuna, Zombie Zombie Powder x8, 20 AP

Of course, this was too easy. The president is of course a fake. Now who would have expected that. Unexpected turn of the storyline for beginners. One or two physical attacks should kill him- then his real form attacks: Gerogero, who…or rather, which, looks like Michael Jackson meeting the Michelin- man; so appropriately, this monster is an undead. How fitting. Undeads are fairly easy to kill: just heal him. Use potions or Cure spells, draw Esuna and cast it right back on him- or, if you want a very quick fight, use a phoenix down or an X- potion (or Elixirs, Life spells, anything which heals fully but I doubt you’d want to waste those) to kill him in one hit. Before you do that you should draw a few Double- spells though. And Esuna. Who knows, it might come in handy.

After the fight you’ll form a new party and talk to Watts to go back to Timber. Go to the house to the right of the train station and enter the building. There’s a hidden Draw Point and a Timber Maniacs on the floor (in the artists’ room) and a “Girl Next Door”- magazine on the second pile to the right.

Head to the pub, defeat the two soldiers and receive a Buel card. Talk to the drunken man and tell him about the cards so he moves aside. Now you can leave through the back door and head through a small alley (save at the save point!). Climb to the top of the station and watch hell breaking loose: Can you guess who the following speech of the president will be interrupted by? Exactly, none other than our beloved Seifer! After a short “conversation” Seifer will be taken away by yet another mysterious person and the party will flee into the house next to the alley.

Talk to Quistis twice, then form a new party. Leave, talk to Watts, then talk to Zone. Move out of Timber, go to the right, walk across the bridge (yawn, so much talking and walking) and board the train. Talk to everyone on board (Zell last) and finally, the train will depart. Leave the train at the first stop and head through the small forest to the west. It is a small passage through the mountains. You can gain a few new items and spells here, so walk up and down to fight a few battles and stock up your inventory. As soon as you arrive at the end of the small forest, a new sequence will take place...
