Objects

It's me, the Chief of Yoshi Village. When I was younger, I encountered all sorts of objects in my adventures, and no doubt Mario will encounter them too. Some are platforms, some are obstacles, and some transcend definition. They're pretty self-explanatory, but I'm going to indulge what they all do for Mario anyway.

Description
? Block
You should recognize these from other Mario games. By hitting them, you will receive something-either a coin or an item. You can also jump on them and use them as a platform. To hit them when they're in the air, jump when you're beneath them. To hit them when they're on the ground, use your hammer.
Bellbell Plant
Bellbell Plants solely grow on Lavalava Island. Examining them will cause them to ring, but this does nothing special. Their true significance lies in the fact that Bellbell Plants almost always indicate the presence of an invisible ? Block nearby...
Big Treasure Chest
These large treasure chests contain power-ups for Mario's Boots and Hammer. Just walk up to the front of them and open them to claim the prize within.
Box
These boxes are found in Boo's Mansion. They can be broken by Spin or Tornado Jumping on top of them. They may or may not contain items.
Brick
You can use these as a platform, or smash them. When you smash them, they may or may not leave an item. Jump when you're beneath them, hitting them with your head, or hit them with your hammer to smash them.
Bulb Bush
These plants grow on Lavalava Island. Examining them will cause them to "poof", and give out a little light.
Bush
These bushes may look like they're just part of the background, but Mario can approach them and rustle them. Doing so may or may not reveal an item.
Coin
These are commonly located everywhere, and they appear when you defeat enemies. Have Mario touch one, and the number of coins he's carrying will raise by one.
Cracked Wall
You will encounter certain walls that have cracks in them. You can use Bombette to blast holes in these walls, revealing hidden rooms.
Cymbal Bush
These plants grow in Lavalava Island. Jumping on them causes the cymbals to clash together, harming Mario. So don't jump in them!
Dock
These docks are found at the edges of water. If you have recruited Sushie, you can enter and exit the water at the docks.
Floor Switch
These switches activate certain things when they're pressed. To press them, you'll need to Spin Jump or Tornado Jump.
Flower
These Flowers appear when you defeat enemies. For each one Mario touches, his FP will be restored by 1.
Heart
These Hearts appear when you defeat enemies. For each one Mario touches, his HP will be restored by 1.
Heart Block
Rejoice when you find one of these! Stand beneath them and jump, hitting them with your head, and your HP and FP will be fully replenished.
Heart Plant
If Mario examines one of these plants, native to Lavalava Island, he may receive a Heart in return. Beware, as Hurt Plants look the same as a Heart Plant, but will attack you when you examine them.
Jack-in-the-Box
These boxes are found in Shy Guy's Toybox. If you Spin Jump or Tornado Jump on top of them, the clown will pop out and propel you to new heights (literally).
Jump Pad
These are basically springboards for Mario to use. Jumping on them will cause Mario to be propelled high into the air, which can help reach new heights or get over obstacles.
Lever
These are found in Shy Guy's Toybox. Having Mario go up to them and pull them may help to fix the railroad track.
Metal Block
These blocks sometimes block Mario's path. You can break them with the Ultra Hammer.
Movable Block
These blocks can be pushed around on the ground. Just have Mario walk up to them from any side, and press against them to push them. Pushing them can help you use them for platforms, or they may be used in other ways...
Munchlesia
These strange plants grow in Lavalava Island. Jumping in them will cause them to attack you, and you'll lose some health.
Padlock
Certain doors in castles and dungeons are locked. You will need to find a key to be able to open them.
Pipe
Pipes can transport Mario to different areas in the Paper Mario world. All you need to do is hop on them, and press Down. If the Pipe is horizontal, just walk into them.
Pulley
These Pulleys are common in Mt. Lavalava. If Mario grabs onto the rope, he can ride down the rope the pulley is attached to, which will take him to someplace new.
Red ? Block
These are basically like regular ? Blocks, that is, they contain items, however, the red variety is more valuable than the yellow ones. Red ? Blocks usually contain something important, like a Badge. Jump when you're beneath them and hit them with your head to claim their prize.
Save Block
The use of these blocks will allow you to save your progress. When you're beneath them, simply jump and hit them with your head to activate them.
Sign
You will find signs strewn about throughout the world. Having Mario walk up to the front of them and examine them will allow him to read them, which will provide much useful information.
Slide
These slides are found on Mt. Rugged. Having Mario go up to the top of them and examine the stick at the top will allow him to slide down. Some of these can take Mario to new places, while others are just for fun.
Spinning Flower
These odd plants grow on Lavalava Island. Jump on them spin by holding down the Z Button, and you'll be propelled into the air, which will allow you to reach places you couldn't before.
Stone Block
These blocks sometimes block Mario's path. You can break them with the Super Hammer or Ultra Hammer.
Super Block
These are some of the most welcome things you can come across in Paper Mario. These blocks will allow you to Super Rank one of your party members, or Ultra Rank a Super Ranked team member if you have the Ultra Stone. When they go up a rank, their attack power goes up, and they learn a new attack. Each Super Block can only be used once.
Switch
Switches are found throughout the land, and something always happens when they are activated. To do so, jump on them or smack them with your hammer.
Treasure Chest
These are located in various places, and always contain items. Have Mario walk up to the front of them and open them to get the prize within.
Tree
They may just be ordinary trees, but that doesn't mean that they don't serve a purpose! Hitting them with your hammer will rustle their branches, and sometimes items will fall down.
Trumpet Plant
These plants are found on Lavalava Island. Examining them will cause them to shoot out stars, and sometimes other things too.
Twister
These annoying tornados roam around Dry Dry Desert. If you get caught in one, you'll be transported to someplace new, so be careful.
Vine
You'll see vines hanging from some of the trees in Jade Jungle. Mario can jump up and grab these vines and give them a little tug. Doing so can cause all sorts of things to happen, so try it!
Weak Floor
When you get the Super Boots or Ultra Boots, Spin or Tornado Jump on top of these boards, and you will break through, and reach the room below.
Yellow Block
These blocks sometimes block Mario's path. He can smash them with any hammer.
