Chapter 1: Infiltrate Giga City!New Enemies:
Items to be found:
New Party Members: X and Zero (Zero disappears at the end of the chapter) Boss: Hippopresser Secret Area: Area 4F East - Secret Shop, Tank Parts, Figure Tokens, and a deactivated Deerball (Need Lagrano Key) Well, here we go! After a lengthy cutscene showing Redips explaining to the three Maverick Hunters their mission, the trio heads to the Lagrano Ruins where X is immediately separated from his commrades. After this ends, you take control of X, which'll be your main party member for a while here. Note: When you face Bat Bones, they won't attack you UNLESS you destroy one of them. Keep them from doing so with a Charge Shot. They also drop Gain Hypers, so this'll be a good place to go to in later missions for this valuable item. On this first floor, you'll find 50z and a Build LE. You can use this to increase X's LE, so I'd suggest doing so. The first door in this area also contains a Save Point. Make sure to save here. Later, when you get into the next missions, you can use these to also teleport back to base. When you get to the door at the very end of this room, you'll find that it's locked (as noted by the lock symbol on your map). Don't worry about it. Check the southern door on the west wall to find a control panel to unlock the door and contact Zero. He'll unlock the door for you. Make your way up to the second floor. You'll find a 25 Tank Energy refill here, but don't worry if you break it with a full tank. It only disappears when used to fill your tank back up. When you get to the third floor, check out the pods inside the room next to you. These once contained 4 powerful Reploids. Why am I mentioning this? Well, these are four of the Mavericks you'll be meeting later on. Afterwards, Zero will unlock the southern door. Head back to the second floor. When you get to the second floor, check the next door to the south to find an Anti-Lock and two 50z. The final door in this area is now unlocked, so head for it to reach the stairs to the third floor again. On this floor, take the west hall to find the room where Epsilon himself was created at. On the way there is a Tank Energy 25 if you need it. The next door has a Melt Missile, which can reduce a target's Shield by 10%, so equip it if you want to. The next door down contains a security needed to get to the next floor. However, Zero can't open it from his end, so you'll have to syncronize the two terminals. Wait for the three beeps and then push the button when the third beep passes. If you mess up, don't worry. Zero is very forgiving. Once this is done, you face your first fight with a Preon-type unit, the Preon Chaser. Be wary of both its Stungun, which can temporarily Bind you, and its Greedy move, which can hit for a critical strike, but thankfully, it misses a lot. Wear it down with the Melt Missile and X's regular attacks before finishing it off with either a Charge Shot or Hyper Mode, but I'd suggest holding off on the Hyper Mode, since you'll need it for the REAL boss fight later. Once it goes down, you get two Force Metals: X-Heart and LE +100. Put both on X and grab the 50 Tank Energy before heading on. The hallway here also has Preon Bitmasters. These foes can summon up Bits to aid them. While this makes for a tougher challenge, you can also earn some hefty EXP as long as the Bitmaster keeps summoning Bits (since summoning bits takes up the Preon Bitmaster's turn). There's also Preon Chasers as well, so be careful. This hall also has a Build Shield, a Backup, and a 100 Tank Energy, so make sure to grab 'em before you head to the northern hallway from the branched area. The other locked door here contains the secret area, but we'll come back to that in the secrets section. When you get to the northern door, you're reunited with Zero. Good thing too, since a Boss crashes the reunion! *WARNING!* Hippopressor This is the first Boss you'll face, and that's a good thing, since Hippopressor is so slow. However, be wary of the Shark Missile on its back. When it gets to its turn, it will launch, and one of your two characters will get some hefty damage done to them. The Hippopressor also uses an attack that flattens its opponents as well as a chaingun. It has another attack as well, but that's only when you've destroyed its head which we'll get to later on. How to beat it: Keep X targeting the Shark Missile, and when he gets enough WE built up (at least 100% if you can), launch a Charge Shot to do some hefty damage to the Hippopressor and destroy the Shark Missile. As for Zero, just hack away at the Hippopressor's head. Don't use his WE til later on. When the machine's head get destroyed, it'll use a Hippo Particle Cannon to inflict Bind on both characters will doing hefty damage. Also when the Bind effect happens, the Hippopressor will get more turns as well. At this point, let loose with the Hyper Modes and Action Triggers, but don't forget about the Shark Missile. Keep this up, and the Hippopressor will go down. After you defeat it, you will get the Guard Buster for X and a Fire Missile. With the Hippopressor defeated, grab the Speed +1 and the Power +1 Force Metals. Head up to the fourth floor for some Tank Parts. When you collect four Tank Parts, you will get another Sub-Tank. Also grab the 80z. Take the door to get to next flight of stairs to reach the fifth floor. On this floor, grab the Vaccine Program and Reboot BEFORE you enter the door. Once you do so, you're treated to a cutscene, and Zero gets removed from the party. The first chapter ends here. Note: If you equipped Zero with any of the Force Metals and/or sub-weapons from this area, don't worry. They're returned to your selection once he leaves the party.
