The Main Mavericks (aka The Bosses)Having trouble getting past a certain Boss? You've come to the right
place! Here, I'll give you the low-down on main Mavericks including
stats, attacks, levels, and strageties to beat them. They'll be
organized by where they are encountered at. Note: Bosses that you fight
on more than one ocassion (Wild Jango, Silver Horn, Incentas, Mach
Jentler, Shadow, Scarface, Botos, Epsilon, and Great Redips) change
from the first time you face them, so the first times you enounter them
will be marked "First Encounter" or "Round One". Lagrano Ruins:
* Shark Missile
Hippopressor is the very first Boss you will face, and while it is
slow, it does have the Shark Missile on its back that will launch on
its turn and deal heavy damage to one of the party members. Also, since
its head is protected from Shot attacks (for now, anyway), X's attacks
won't do a lot of damage, but Zero's will. Be warned that once it loses
its head, you will have to face the Hippo Particle Cannon which can
Bind your characters slowing them down and giving the Shark Missile
more times to launch itself. Also, the Hippopressor's Heavy Flier hits
both characters, so watch out. Central Tower:
Spider can be pretty intimidating at first, since his Counter Card
blocks all attacks, and his various card attacks hit for multiple
times. Thankfully, he's just bluffing at this point. * Wild Jango (First Encounter)
Jango is fast, and I mean FAST! He'll get even faster as the battle goes on, so you'll want to take him out quickly. He uses Thunder-based attacks and likes to inflict the Virus status on your characters. This is like Poison, so use a Vaccine Program or Cure One to cure it. He also has a move that'll reduce the Hunters' Speed and increase his Speed by 10. He can inflict Bind as well, so be wary about that. Thankfully, Jango is weak against Fire, so get some Fire Weapons. How to beat him: I hope you equipped X with the Fire Buster and Fire Missile, since this'll be a tricky battle without them. Try out Spider's Get Item Sub-Weapon to yank the two items Jango has on him, and keep pounding away with X. Use Spider to heal when needed and to use an ocassional Ultra Fire or Mega Fire on Jango. Use X's X Fire's fully charged Charged Collider to do some nasty damage, and put Spider in Trickster mode when his LE dips low. You should have this battle pretty easily if you keep at it. * Scarface (Chapter 9 First Encounter)
Scarface is just like the Mettaur Counters, so make sure to alternate your attacks when facing against him. He's weak against Fire (just like Jango). Be wary of the Plasma Array and Electro Breaker attacks, since he tended to use those on me when he got low in his LE. How to beat him: Scarface will counter the same attack that he's hit with, so make sure to have altenating attacks for him. Be sure to equip Force Metals for as much protection against Thunder as you can. Also, if you got the Reverse Thunder Force Metal from the Gimialla Mine (via the Mechaniloid Deployment mini-game), equip it to a character along with a Bait Sub-Weapon so that when Scarface attacks that character, he actually HEALS them! It's a fun trick to do once you've got all three Reverse Force Metals.Also, pound on him Fire attacks and X's Charge Collider until he goes down for the count. Note: The Tails Clan is in this section, but they're not listed
here. Please see the "How to Beat the Tails Clan" section for help. Tianna POW Camp:
Silver Horn is big and nasty. He also packs quite a whallop when he hits, so be ready for that. He also uses Water-based attacks, so I hope you took my suggestion and loaded everyone up with Water Guard Force Metals. The three main attacks you should watch out for are Cryogenics, which'll freeze up characters and make them more vunerable to attack (and skips them til they're unfrozen), Tidal Wave (hits all and reduces LE by 50%), and Pressure Abyss (a critical shot at +20% more power). Be wary once you get him down to 50% LE, since then he will use Liquid Coating. Not only does this make him tougher to take him down, it also reduces all attacks (including item attacks) by 25%-50%! If you've been saving up your Hyper Modes, this is the time to use 'em. How to beat him: Make sure to have plenty of Water Guards on your characters (Especially Massimo, since he'll take double damage), and buy some Warm-Ups as well before you take on Silver Horn. And of course, get some Thunder weapons. Silver Horn's weak against Thunder, so X should have two Thunder Missiles and a Thunder Buster on him. For Spider, make sure he has at least one Thunder Missile and his Item Capture on him. He'll be a healer, but that doesn't mean he can't do some damage. For Massimo, he should also have two Thunder Missiles. Pelt Silver Horn with X's Thunder Missiles and Thunder Buster. Wait til he's at 100% WE before unleashing a Charge Shot. When you get enough WE on Massimo, have him use his Beserk Charge. Spider should concentrate on healing the party as well as using Ultra Thunders once he manages to steal both of Silver Horn's items. If a character gets frozen by Cryogenics, IMMEDIATELY use a Warm-Up. Keep this up until you see that Silver Horn is using his Liquid Coating. NOW use the Hyper Modes to really start packing a wallop. Trust me when I say this, since X's Charge Collider does INSANE amounts of damage when it's at 100%. If you get lucky, you MIGHT even get to finish off Silver Horn with a Final Strike, so be ready for that as well.Note: Rafflesian and the Belladonnas are in this area as well, but
they will be put in the "How to get the Ultimate Armors" section. Gaudile Laboratory:
* Needles
Note: On the Needles, I do not know what the 100% item is. Could someone please check for me? Psyche is annoying, to say the least. With his first move, he summons some Needles, which makes you have to focus on them rather than Psyche himself. Psyche is fast too, so be careful. He gets to be tougher in his second form, but we'll come to that later. How to beat him: The key to winning is to destroy Psyche's Needles before his next turn. The way to do this is to have X ready with a Charge Shot and Spider equipped with one of his Spade weapons with his WE over 75%. Also, check to see when Psyche's next turn is. If it's before Spider, let loose with a Charge Shot. For the third party member, I'd go with Marino since she's fast. Make sure to equip her with the Item Capture rather than Spider so that she can take Psyche's two items. Also, do NOT use your Hyper Modes yet. You'll see what I mean come the next part. It'll take a bit before Psyche goes down, but he's certainlly not out. * Mad Naultilus (First Encounter)
This version is VERY ANNOYING, since you can't attack without him
countering you. Make sure to follow EXACTLY what I say in the next part
to win this battle. Ulfat Factory:
Unlike past bosses (except for Dr. Psyche), Jentler has Preon Units
to back him up (thanks
to his Gentle Call). However, this can be used against him to make him
eat up his turns instead of attacking. Also, since he's an air unit,
it's VERY hard to hit him with melee fighters unless they have a
Hawkeye on them. If he's knocked from the air by a strong attack, melee
attacks will be able to hit until his next turn, and then he'll
recover. Gimialla Mines:
* Shadow (Round Two)
Guess who? Yup, it's the traitor, Shadow. This time, however, he's
powered by Supra-Force Metal. You'd better be ready to hit him HARD,
and I mean REAL HARD, when he starts charging that cannon of his. If
you've got Hyper Modes, use 'em! He also has a Code Breaker move,
which, if you're not careful, can KO one of your guys flat. It looks like Shadow's going to take down X and Axl, doesn't it?
Guess again! Zero comes to the rescue, and he's DEFINATELY got some
payback for Shadow! It's time for Round 2! * Incentas (First Encounter)
Unlike most of the bosses you've faced so far, this one's by FAR the
trickiest (even tricker than Mad Natillus!). The reason is that
Incentas changes his element ever single round. What's that mean? Well,
simply put, it means that his absorbance and weakness varies with each
turn, which can be bad, since you'll likely be helping him if you hit
him with the wrong element at the wrong time. Be prepared for the ones
who have the element of the chosen moment to be either healing or using
elemental items. Vanallia Desert:
* Q-Bit
Like Psyche and Jentler before him, Botos will summon two helpers,
Q-Bits, on his first turn. What makes these annoying is they're so damn
fast. Also, they can heal Botos for 20,000 LE, which makes them even
MORE annoying. However, just like the ones who summon helpers, if you
destroy the Q-Bits fast enough, Botos will use his next turn to summon
them again. However, Botos is pretty darn fast himself, so he might get
an attack in. He likes to use his voice and laser shows to do damage,
but his most annoying thing to do is to weaken your party's armor and
shield while increasing the power of his party's attacks as well as
armor and shield. Of course, Botos doesn't like the water, so nailing
him with ice attacks is a good idea. Melda Ore Plant:
* Q-Bit
Botos is back, but get a load of what happens when you hit him only one time.... How to beat him: Just hit him once. He'll go down and run away, but you've gotta deal with the two Q-Bits that he leaves behind to give chase. Do so. * Botos (Third Encounter) Note: This only happens if you pick the door with Botos. This happens twice in this stage.
* Q-Bit
How to beat him: Again, just whack him once to make him run and then deal with the Q-Bits. * Decoy Botos Note: This only happens if you pick the door with the Decoy Botos. This happens twice in this level.
* Bigbit Note: This is summoned by Copy Botos.
How to beat him: Just pound on it til it goes down. If you want to gain some more exp, destroy the Bigbit before Copy Botos' next turn, and it'll summon it again. After it's done, you can get the items in that area. * Ferham
Ferham's back from the desert, and she's not too happy that you survived... well, maybe she is, since she can now defeat you for Epsilon and Scarface (I think she might have a crush on Scarface). She's also an aerial target like Gentler and Mad Nautilus, so it'll be hard for your melee fighters to hit her. She also has a Heat Haze like move to make her more agile as well, and she loves to use Blizzards but can't stand Thunders (hint hint). How to beat her: Well, as I said before, she's a flyer, so you'll need HawkEyes if you want your melee fighters to be able to hit her. Also, make sure to have a LOT of water protection and Thunder weapons. When you hit Ferham with a Thunder weapon while she's in her Crimson Shade, she'll scream and lose it, and her next turn she'll be forced to bring it up again wasting her turn, so use this to your advantage. If Marino's in your party, use her "I'll Take That!" to get the Build Hyper and Force Missiles she's carrying. After that, keep pounding her with Thunder attacks until she goes down.Note: The Duckbill Moles are in this section, but they're not listed here. Please see the "How to Get the Ultimate Armors" section for more information. Grave Base: * Scarface (Second Encounter)
He never learns, does he? Well, time to lay the smackdown on him again! How to beat him: He's a tad stronger than before, but don't switch your weapons out (unless you've got Thunder, that is, and no Thunder protection), since you can't change weapons before the next fight. He's got a bit more HP this time around, but you're likely stronger now. Add Sub-Weapons that help out with offense, like Power Charge and Generator, and for Zero, Heat Haze if you want. WE+ Force Metals are quite handy here as well, if you need 'em. You can steal from him to get a Tank Energy 100.* Epslion
Time to take down the big boss man and put a stop to the Rebellion once and for all! How to beat him: There's two forms here, and this is the first of the two, so be ready. I recommend not using Hyper Modes until the second form (unless you've got a good store of Gain Hypers). Be ready with the Subtanks, as he usually opens up with a nasty move, the Meta Crush, which reduces one character's LE down to 1, and that's never a good thing. Hopefully, you've got guards for all three elements (you should for Thunder at least), since he also has element attacks of all three elements, and his Nova Thunder attack will do 1000 points of damage to all party members. He's not too fast either, so at least you have that working for you. Steal from him to get a Protect +5 and a Full Specs +3. Just keep hammering him with pumped up regular attacks and the occassional Action Trigger. When you deplete his HP, he activates the Omega Force and seriously pumps up his power ratings and restores his HP, so if you got turns before that comes up, heal or guard! * Eject Epsilon (Round 2)
How to beat him: This is the time to break out the two Ultimate Armor Hyper Modes (if you got them)! You don't want to give Epsilon a chance to unleash his full fury, do you? Also, remember the Meta Crush and Nova Thunder? He uses those a LOT more, and he restores a ton of HP (just like the Belladonnas and Raffelsian did). He also does the same thing that Scarface does as well, so be warned. If you manage to steal from him, you'll get a Gain Hyper and a Build Hyper. If you've agumented X and Zero with WE+ Force Metals, they should be able to do a LOT of damage with their Action Triggers with possibly tens of thousands of damage to Epsilon each turn! Far East HQ: * Wild Jango (Second Encounter)
Jango's stats have risen quite a bit since the last time you've faced this bad cat, but then again, so have yours. If you want to start putting the hurting on him, open up with Hyper Modes. You'll get to restore them in just a bit (plus, X'll do WAY more damage in his Ultimate Armor than X Fire (even though technically, X Fire has the better advantage against Jango). He also has the Hell Gravity and Code Breaker moves, so watch out for those as well. For the rest of the stragety, I'm copying what I put in the second chapter. How to beat him: Thankfully, Jango's weak against Fire attacks, so if you got the items I suggested earlier, you're all set. There's only a Boost Power to steal this time, so after you get it, have some fun with Axl and his Hyper Modes, Action Triggers, and the Bait/Reverse Thunder combo. Just make sure to have Axl heal the others when necessary. If you're fast enough, have Axl turn into Jentler to knock him down some. I wouldn't suggest Incentas, since you never know what elemental form he gets. It won't be easy, since he'll still use the Rolling Thunder and get in multiple hits, so keep pounding on him until he goes down.* Silver Horn (Second Encounter) 73500 290 105 95 100 100% Absorb 150% 3000 15000 1000 Build Armor (100%) Boost Armor (100%) Shock Geyser, Cryogenics, Ultra Giga Blizzard, Tidal Wave, Pressure Abyss, Liquid Coating Only uses Liquid Coating when LE is at 50% The big, bad Horn is back, and Massimo's not too happy. Time to send him back to the scrap pile! Silver Horn is big and nasty. He also packs quite a whallop when he hits, so be ready for that. He also uses Water-based attacks, so I hope you took my suggestion and loaded everyone up with Water Guards, Resists, and the Reverse. If you've been saving up your Hyper Modes, this is the time to use 'em, except for Absolute Zero, that is. Massimo also can do a lot of oomph with hsi Shock Lance Beta, so if you want to use him, put a Neutralizer and the Reverse on him How to beat him: Silver Horn's weak against Thunder, so X should have two Thunder Missiles and a Thunder Buster MKII or MKIII (if you got it) on him. For Zero, make sure he has at least one Thunder Missile and his Heat Haze on him as well as a Thunder Saber or Thunder Saber +. For Axl, give him two Twin Thunders and his Manhunter. He'll be a healer, but that doesn't mean he can't do some damage. Pelt Silver Horn with X's Thunder Missiles and Thunder Buster MKII or MKIII. Wait til he's at 100% WE before unleashing a Charge Shot. When you get enough WE on Axl, have him use his DNA Change into Jango. Axl should concentrate on healing the party as well as using Ultra Thunders once he manages to steal Silver Horn's item. For Zero, concentrate on using the Thunder Missile and the Heat Haze as well as his Thunder Saber or Thunder Saber +. When he gets to 100%, have him use his Command Arts. If you get lucky, you MIGHT even get to finish off Silver Horn with a Final Strike, so be ready for that as well. * Mad Naultilus (Second Encounter) 38500 275 85 95 100 100% 100% 100% 3000 15000 1000 Build Shield (100%) Boost Shield (100%) Mad Blaster, Penitration, Mad Cocktail, Death Gravity, Energy Capture, Mad Ecstasy Counterattacks against all attacks unless struck when its green core is exposed after the Mad Ecstasy attack. It had to be Psyche's more powerful form, didn't it? This version is VERY ANNOYING, since you can't attack without him countering you. Make sure to follow EXACTLY what I say in the next part to win this battle. How to beat him: As I said before, you can't attack him constantly since he'll counter every move you do. So, how do you defeat him? Well, block a lot and wait for when you get the prompt that he's opening up the bulkhead (you'll see it as well). As soon as he does this, unload on him with Hyper Modes (Marino's is VERY fast here. X's Ultimate Armor and Absolute Zero are good to use as well.) and Action Triggers until he closes his bulkhead. When he does, Cooldown and go back to blocking. The exception to this is Axl's Stealth Mode, since he can't be hit in it. Use the Item Capture to get his item and the Get Zenny+ to get a lot more Zenny from him as well. Be wary about Nautilus' Mad Cocktail, since this can cause your characters to go Beserk, and that's a VERY bad thing here as I said earlier. Use Coolers ASAP when this happens. * Mach Jentler (Second Encounter)
Unlike past bosses, Jentler has Preon Units to back him up (thanks to his Gentle Call). However, this can be used against him to make him eat up his turns instead of attacking. Also, since he's an air unit, it's VERY hard to hit him with melee fighters unless they have a Hawkeye on them. If he's knocked from the air by a strong attack, melee attacks will be able to hit until his next turn, and then he'll recover. How to beat him: Gentler is weak against ice, so make sure everyone is equipped with Ice Missiles and Fire Guards, Resists, and the Reverse to reduce the damage. If you have Marino or Zero in the party, make sure they're also equipped with their Ice weapons. X should be equipped with his Ice Buster. Axl can be a good party member since he can DNA change into Silver Horn. Make sure Gentler is on the ground before using this, or it won't hit. Ultra Blizzards work good here as well, so don't forget to use 'em. One rule of thumb: Do NOT put X into X Fire. If you do, X'll heal Gentler instead of damaging him, so it's best not to do that. Ultimate Armor is good to go though. On the other hand, use the other Hyper Modes to really lay on the damage. Marino's is good here, since she can lay into Gentler with Blizzards, her normal attack, and Ice Missiles taking off at least a thousand points per round. If Gentler is in the air, he'll be able to dodge quickly, so before attacking with Zero, especially if he's in Absolute Zero, make sure to knock him out of the air and then wail into him with the Calmitious Arts! Once he's down, his Preon units will vanish.* Incentas (Second Encounter)
This one's by FAR the trickiest Boss yet (even tricker than Mad Natillus!). The reason is that Incentas changes his element ever single round. What's that mean? Well, simply put, it means that his absorbance and weakness varies with each turn, which can be bad, since you'll likely be helping him if you hit him with the wrong element at the wrong time. Be prepared for the ones who have the element of the chosen moment to be either healing or using elemental items. How to beat him: First thing's first. Before you even go into this fight, make sure to have one of your party members equipped with the Analyze Force Metal. This is key to winning here. I put it on X, since he'll be one of the ones I'd be using. Also, make sure that everyone has a triple dose of elemental Guards/Resists, and each one of the three party members has one of the Reverse Force Metals. I gave X the Water Reverse, Zero the Thunder Reverse, and Axl the Fire Reverse. Because X has X Fire, give him either the Ice or Thunder Buster MKII (or MKIII, which is what I gave him) and missiles of the other Element. Zero, since he's got Absolute Zero, should get either his Fire Saber + or Thunder Saber + and missiles of the two you didn't choose. If you got any of Marino's elemental Star weapons, give her the one that you didn't pick for Zero, one of the other two missiles, and the Get Item subweapon. For an alternate, I picked Axl, since he has the three elements covered (Jango for Thunder, Horn for Water, and Jentra for Fire). Now, all you need to do is use the Analyzer Force Metal to see which element Incentas is and attack with the element he's weak against. Don't forget to cooldown X and Zero as well when it's needed. Keep this up, and you'll win.* Depth Dragoon
With a name like "Depth Dragoon", you'd think he'd be weak against Thunder. Not so. If you thought he was water-based and loaded up on Thunder weapons, kiss your party good bye, because this guy uses Thunder like nobody's business. He also likes using effect moves like Boost Power and Electromagnetic Field, and his Thunder Clap can force a party member's turn back a couple of times! His Destructive Charge also hits everyone in the party. How to beat him: As stated before, he's Thunder-based, so that means making sure to have all the Thunder defense you can (even if it means adding a Neutralizer on someone who has the Reverse) as well as Fire offense. Here's another one you can use the Bait + Reverse Thunder combo on (which is fun, since he can heal up your character quickly). X and Zero's Ultimate Armors are recommended, but I used Absolute Zero and X Fire to take him on. After all, X Fire has got a type advantage against Dragoon, does it not? Steal from him to get the Beast Lancer, Massimo's best weapon. He also tends to waste turns using Boost Power once he's already fully powered up, so make use of that to give him some extra pounding. If you've got Axl (why wouldn't you?), have him turn into Jentler to really knock the socks off of Dragoon. * Redips Note: In the Walkthrough, Redips drops a variety of items, but from a stragety guide I own, he only drops the Beam Sword. If anyone knows the percentages of the other dropped items, could you please let me know? Thanks.
* Red Hubcap
Just like several of the ones you've faced in the past (Jentler, Psyche, and Botos), Redips also summons helpers: Red Hubcaps (remember these from the cutscene just before this mission? Yup. THOSE things.). Not only are these things incredible annoying, but as soon as you destroy one of those buggers, Redips summons ANOTHER one! Fun! Redips, meanwhile, will block most of the time (kinda like the Preon S Faces), but he has some powerful attacks, including Codebreaker, so be prepared to defend against that as well. How to beat him: Well, the best way to defeat Redips is Hyper Modes, but you'd best have a stragety for it, since Redips will block reducing the effect of the attacks. Destroy a Hubcap to make him waste his turn restoring them and then pound on him. Make sure to steal from him as well, since he carries the Rei Ichimonji.* Great Redips (Round One)
* Supra Force Metal L
* Supra Force Metal R
There's a lot of bad news from this guy. First, his LE is 999,999! That's almost 1,000,000 LE! Second, he's got two pieces of Supra Force Metal attached, and as long as those are active, he regains LE like no one's business as well as has a pretty good defense. He also attacks all the party and can do numerous status attacks like Virus, Freeze, and Beserk, which is no fun. Let's not forget about the Supra-Force Metals he has on his shoulders. Not only can they help Great Redips, but they can attack with powerful elemental attacks to boot. Oh, and Redips gains back all the damage (if any) you've done to him. How to beat him: As stated before, it's a bit hard to
damage Redips
with the Supra-Force Metals activated, so instead, target THEM. They
each have 4600 LE, which is rather week, but whittle them down at the
same time. they'll also regenerate after a time, so be prepared for
that. Redips also holds a SFM Fragment Alpha, and the
Supra-Force Metals have a Neutralizer -10 and Neutralizer
-20 each. Once you've plucked the SFM Fragment from Redips, keep
wailing on the Supra-Force Metals with shot attacks until both are
destroyed. After you've destroyed the Supra-Force Metals a few times,
Fehram takes one of the Supra-Force
Metals from Redips. NOW it's time
for Round 2! * Great Redips (Second Round)
* Supra Force Metal L
How to beat him (part 2): Now that Redips has only one Supra-Force Metal this time around, his stats take a hit, but the bad news is that whatever damage you took during the first round is still there, so make sure to heal up. Once again, take out the Supra-Force Metal with shot attacks (or combat attacks augmented with a Hawk Eye sub-weapon) to take it out. Once it's down, cut loose with the Hyper Modes to do some MAJOR damage to him. Don't forget to steal from Redips again, since he has the SFM Fragment Beta this time around. If you didn't get what was in the Supra-Force Metals last round, don't worry. They're still there. Keep at him and make sure to heal and restore Hyper Modes asap. |
