Shops:
If you want, you can let a unit rescue Merlinus to make sure he doesn't get attacked. Then rush one of your fast moving strong unit up to the village on top to collect 5000 G before enemy Brigand destroys it. Also remember to protect your weaker units like Serra by moving them behand stronger units. The main enemy force will come from the top, so let 2-3 units finish off those scattered enemies around the bottom, than focus your force north.
You get Merlinus the merchant after this battle.
Boss Strategy:
Not a hard boss, attack him with 1-2 units and he's finished. Besides, you don't need to defeat him to win.

1 Nomad, 1 Myrmidon(upper left fortress) after enemy's 1st turn
1 Nomad, 1 Brigand(lower right fortress) after enemy's 2nd turn
1 Nomad, 1 Myrmidon(upper left fortress) after enemy's 4th turn
