Mario

Everybody knows Mario, Italian plumber extraordinaire. Mario is the main character of the game, who is on a quest to rescue Peach and find the treasure behind the Thousand-Year Door. Mario can attack by jumping or using his hammer, and his attack power goes up as he gets new hammers and boots. He is also able to use Star Powers as he finds the Crystal Stars.

Mario's Jump Moves

Jump attacks cannot be used on Spiky enemies without the Spike Guard Badge or Firey enemies without the Ice Power Badge. Jump attacks, however, can be used to flip over most enemies with a shell, which leaves them helpless and defenseless.

Initial Boots:
Jump 0 FP Mario jumps on an enemy, which causes 1 HP of damage. Execute a Timed Hit by pressing A just as Mario lands on the enemy. This causes him to to jump on the enemy a second time, causing an extra HP of damage. Execute a Stylish Move by first executing a timed hit, then by pressing A as Mario reaches the apex of his bounce. If you press A as Mario lands on the enemy again, you can execute a second Stylish Move as he reaches his apex again.
Super Boots:
Jump 0 FP Mario jumps on an enemy, which causes 2 HP of damage. Execute a Timed Hit by pressing A just as Mario lands on the enemy. This causes him to to jump on the enemy a second time, causing an extra 2 HP of damage. Execute a Stylish Move by first executing a timed hit, then by pressing A as Mario reaches the apex of his bounce. If you press A as Mario lands on the enemy again, you can execute a second Stylish Move as he reaches his apex again.
Spin Jump 2 FP Mario Jumps on an enemy, which causes 2 HP of damage. Execute a Timed Hit by pressing A just as Mario lands on the enemy. This causes him to spin, then jump on the enemy a second time, causing an extra 3 HP of damage. If you press A as he lands on the enemy a second time, you will cause 4 HP of damage instead of just 3. Execute a Stylish Move by pressing A as Mario is at the peak of his jump before landing on the enemy.
Ultra Boots:
Jump 0 FP Mario jumps on an enemy, which causes 3 HP of damage. Execute a Timed Hit by pressing A just as Mario lands on the enemy. This causes him to to jump on the enemy a second time, causing an extra 3 HP of damage. Execute a Stylish Move by first executing a timed hit, then by pressing A as Mario reaches the apex of his bounce. If you press A as Mario lands on the enemy again, you can execute a second Stylish Move as he reaches his apex again.
Spin Jump 2 FP Mario Jumps on an enemy, which causes 3 HP of damage. Execute a Timed Hit by pressing A just as Mario lands on the enemy. This causes him to spin, then jump on the enemy a second time, causing an extra 5 HP of damage. If you press A as he lands on the enemy a second time, you will cause 6 HP of damage instead of just 5. Execute a Stylish Move by pressing A as Mario is at the peak of his jump before landing on the enemy.
Spring Jump 4 FP Mario winds up and jumps high into the air before landing on an enemy, which causes 6 HP of damage. Execute a Timed Hit by pressing A just as Mario lands on the enemy. This causes him to spin, then jump on the enemy a second time, causing an extra 5 HP of damage. If you press A as he lands on the enemy a second time, you will cause 6 HP of damage instead of just 5. Execute a Stylish Move by pressing A just after the second Timed Hit (when Mario deals an extra 6 HP of damage). You should press it just as Mario hits the peak of his rebound, which is almost immediately after making contact with the enemy.

Mario's Hammer Moves

Hammer Attacks only hit once, but tend to be more powerful than Jump Attacks (although this is countered by Jump Attacks striking twice). Hammer Attacks cannot be used on airborne enemies or enemies with spikes protruding out in front of them. Also, Hammer Attacks can only attack the closest enemy on the ground.

Initial Hammer:
Hammer 0 FP Mario winds up and strikes an enemy with his hammer, which causes 1 HP of damage. Execute a Timed Hit by holding Left on the Control Stick until the star lights up, then releasing. This causes Mario to cause 2 HP of damage instead of just 1. Execute a Stylish Move by pressing A while Mario is swinging his hammer. This will also cause Mario to backflip. Execute a second Stylish Move by pressing A just as Mario is landing his backflip.
Super Hammer:
Hammer 0 FP Mario winds up and strikes an enemy with his hammer, which causes 2 HP of damage. Execute a Timed Hit by holding Left on the Control Stick until the star lights up, then releasing. This causes Mario to cause 4 HP of damage instead of just 2. Execute a Stylish Move by pressing A while Mario is swinging his hammer. This will also cause Mario to backflip. Execute a second Stylish Move by pressing A just as Mario is landing his backflip.
Super Hammer 2 FP Mario winds up and swings his hammer at an enemy, which causes 2 HP of damage. Execute a Timed Hit by holding Left on the Control Stick until the star lights up, then releasing. This causes Mario to cause 4 HP of damage instead of just 2, and also causes 1 HP of damage to all enemies on the ground behind the enemy you attacked. Execute a Stylish Move by pressing A as Mario's spin starts winding down after he hits the enemy.
Ultra Hammer:
Hammer 0 FP Mario winds up and strikes an enemy with his hammer, which causes 3 HP of damage. Execute a Timed Hit by holding Left on the Control Stick until the star lights up, then releasing. This causes Mario to cause 6 HP of damage instead of just 3. Execute a Stylish Move by pressing A while Mario is swinging his hammer. This will also cause Mario to backflip. Execute a second Stylish Move by pressing A just as Mario is landing his backflip.
Super Hammer 2 FP Mario winds up and swings his hammer at an enemy, which causes 3 HP of damage. Execute a Timed Hit by holding Left on the control stick until the star lights up, then releasing. This causes Mario to cause 6 HP of damage instead of just 3, and also causes 1 HP of damage to all enemies on the ground behind the enemy you attacked. Execute a Stylish Move by pressing A as Mario's spin starts winding down after he hits the enemy.
Super Hammer 4 FP Mario winds up and swings his hammer at an enemy, which causes 3 HP of damage. Execute a Timed Hit by holding Left on the control stick until the star lights up, then releasing. This causes Mario to cause 6 HP of damage instead of just 3, and also causes 3 HP of damage to all enemies on the ground behind the enemy you attacked. Execute a Stylish Move by pressing A as Mario's spin starts winding down after he hits the enemy.

Mario's Badge-Jump Moves

These moves are only available to Mario if he equips the corresponding Badge. If more than one of the same badge is equipped, you'll have to use twice the amount of FP (An attack with one badge that costs 2 FP will cost 4 with 2 badges, 8 with 3 badges, etc.), but the effects of the attack are generally increased. For more information on badges, see the corresponding section.

Multibounce 1 BP 2 FP Mario jumps on the first enemy. This attack has the same Attack Power as Mario's regular jump attack. For each additional Badge equipped, 1 extra HP of damage is added on. Execute a Timed Hit by pressing A as Mario lands on each enemy. Each time you do this, Mario will proceed to bounce on the next enemy in line too. Execute a Stylish Move by pressing A as Mario reaches the apex of each bounce. This works for every enemy Mario bounces on except the first one (so you must execute Timed Hits to execute Stylish Moves).
Power Bounce 3 BP 3 FP Mario jumps on an enemy. This attack has the same Attack Power as Mario's regular jump attack. Execute a Timed Hit by pressing A as Mario lands on the enemy. Each time you do this, Mario will bounce back in the air, and will bounce on the enemy again, each time doing one less HP of damage (until you reach 1... at that point, you will continue doing 1 HP of damage). Mario continues doing this until he misses a Timed Hit. Execute a Stylish Move by pressing A as Mario reaches the apex of each bounce. You can't do this on the initial jump, but for every Timed Hit, you can execute another Stylish Move.
Power Jump 1 BP 2 FP Mario jumps on an enemy. This attack does two HP of damage than a regular jump. For each additional Badge equipped, 2 extra HP of damage is added on. Execute a Timed Hit by pressing A as Mario lands on the enemy. By doing this you increase the Attack Power by the same amount as the Attack Power of Mario's regular jump. Execute a Stylish Move by pressing A as Mario reaches the apex of his jump before landing on the enemy.
Shrink Stomp 1 BP 2 FP Mario jumps on an enemy and causes "Shrink" status for 3 rounds. This attack has the same Attack Power as Mario's regular Jump attack. Equipping a second badge makes the effect last for 5 rounds. Execute a Timed Hit by pressing A as Mario lands on the enemy. This causes him to jump on the enemy a second time, effectively doubling the amount of damage done. Execute a Stylish Move by first executing a timed hit, then by pressing A as Mario reaches the apex of his bounce. If you press A as Mario lands on the enemy again, you can execute a second Stylish Move as he reaches his apex again.
Sleepy Stomp 1 BP 2 FP Mario jumps on an enemy and causes "Sleepy" status for 3 rounds.
Soft Stomp 1 BP 2 FP Mario jumps on an enemy and causes "Soft" status for 3 rounds.
Tornado Jump 2 BP 3 FP Mario jumps on an enemy. This attack has the same Attack Power as Mario's regular Jump attack. For each additional Badge equipped, 1 extra HP of damage is added to the jump, and 2 extra HP of damage is added to the tornado. Execute a Timed Hit by pressing A as Mario lands on the enemy. This doubles Mario's attack power, and gives him the opportunity to perform a second Timed Hit. This time, three buttons will appear on the screen. Press them in the order shown to do 2 HP damage to all airborne enemies. Execute a Stylish Move by first executing both timed hits, then as Mario is falling to the ground after the tornado, pressing A. This will cause him to roll back to his place. You can execute a second Stylish Move by pressing A again just before he gets back to his place.

Mario's Badge-Hammer Moves

These moves are only available to Mario if he equips the corresponding Badge. If more than one of the same badge is equipped, you'll have to use twice the amount of FP (An attack with one badge that costs 2 FP will cost 4 with 2 badges, 8 with 3 badges, etc.), but the effects of the attack are generally increased. For more information on badges, see the corresponding section.

Fire Drive 3 BP 5 FP A flame drops in front of Mario, which Mario can hit to attack the enemies. If the attack is successful, the first ground enemy is damaged by 5 and each ground enemy behind it is damaged by one less than the one in front of it. This attack is Fire-based and causes Burning status as well. Equipping an additional Badge increases the damage to all enemies by 2. Execute a Timed Hit by holding left on the Control Stick and releasing it when the flame is in front of Mario. Without a Timed Hit, this attack fails. Execute a Stylish Move by pressing A just after Mario swings his hammer at the flame.
Hammer Throw 1 BP 2 FP Mario throws his hammer at an enemy. This attack can reach any enemy, and has the same attack power as Mario's regular hammer attack. For each additional badge equipped, 1 extra HP of damage is done. Execute a Timed Hit by holding left on the Control Stick and releasing it when the star lights up. This doubles the attack power of the attack. Execute a Stylish Move by pressing A just after Mario releases the hammer. This causes Mario to do a flip. If you press A again just before he lands, you can execute a second Stylish Move.
Head Rattle 1 BP 2 FP Mario swings his hammer at an enemy, which damages it and causes "Confusion" status for 3 rounds. This attack has the same Attack Power as Mario's regular Hammer attack. By equipping a second Badge, the duration of the effect lasts for 5 rounds instead of 3. Execute a Timed Hit by holding left of the Control Stick and releasing it when the star lights up. This doubles the attack power of the attack. Execute a Stylish Move by pressing A as Mario is swinging his hammer. This causes Mario to do a back flip. You can execute a second Stylish Move if you press A just before Mario lands his flip.
Ice Smash 1 BP 3 FP Mario swings his hammer at an enemy, which damages it and causes "Frozen" status for 3 rounds. This attack has the same Attack Power as Mario's regular Hammer attack, but since it's an ice attack, it does an extra HP of damage to Fiery enemies.
Piercing Blow 1 BP 2 FP Mario swings his hammer at an enemy. This attack has the same Attack Power as Mario's regular Hammer attack, but it completely ignores Defense. Execute a Timed Hit by holding left on the Control Stick and releasing it when the star lights up. This doubles the attack power of the attack. Execute a Stylish Move pressing A as Mario is swinging his hammer. This causes Mario to do a back flip. If you press A just as he's about to land his back flip, he'll do another one. You can keep doing this to perform up to 4 Stylish Moves.
Power Smash 1 BP 2 FP Mario swings his hammer at an enemy. This attack does 2 HP more damage than Mario's regular Hammer attack would. Each additional badge equipped adds 2 more HP of damage to the attack. Execute a Timed Hit by holding left on the Control Stick and releasing it when the star lights up. This adds damage to the attack equal to the amount of damage Mario's Hammer attack would normally do, without a Timed Hit (either 1, 2 or 3 HP). Execute a Stylish Move pressing A as Mario is swinging his hammer. This causes Mario to do a high back flip. If you press A just as he's about to land his back flip, he'll do another one. You can keep doing this to perform up to 4 Stylish Moves.
Quake Hammer 2 BP 3 FP Mario slams his hammer on the ground and damages all the enemies on the ground or ceiling. This attack only does 1 HP of damage. Each additional badge equipped adds 2 more HP of damage to the attack. Execute a Timed Hit by holding left on the Control Stick and releasing it when the star lights up. This adds an extra HP of damage to the attack. Execute a Stylish Move by pressing A after Mario stands up straight after swinging his hammer. This causes him to do a back flip. You can execute a second Stylish Move if you press A just before Mario lands his flip.

Mario is the most powerful character, and has the potential to be even MORE powerful by proper Badge-equipping.
