Forest of Despair

The Forest of Despair contains loads of treasure for the discerning adventurer, although some are more hidden than others; I'll try to be as efficient as possible with this one. Remember that this stage doesn't limit your horizontal movement, so you can backtrack here.
Just run forward and hop forward into the small cave there, although it would seem there are a lot of other routes to try. Trust me on this one. This cave in question contains LOTS of Kobolds and Gnolls, but a certain magical Sword of Flame is there for your Fighters/Thieves/Dwarves/Elves to pick up.
When you exit the previous cave, you'll find yourself in the middle of a bug swarm. Going right will end your run for goodies, so go left into the cave rock. You'll find a BIG bunch of ghouls so a Cleric'll be useful. He'll be even more useful for Uncursing the Cursed Sword 2 (It's the black sword in the metal chest). Just try to pick it up a bunch of times (Eight should do the trick) and it'll transform into the HOLY AVENGER sword, bane of all non-boss undead. Exit.
Hop for the left, then up and get a non-Magic User to push the rock from the left. Cave contains usual low-level Kobolds and their treasure fare, plus a level 3 scroll for your magic-inclined characters. Once again, Exit.
Time for the last lap of this trip. Head all the way back to your starting position. The first secret is RIGHT .. down there.
Keys, bugs and minor treasure, PLUS: In the first screen behind the bushes, for your sword wielding characters, a magical Storm Blade! ALTHOUGH WATCH OUT FOR THE PETRIFY TRAP! After the bug swarm, a highly useful Owlbear Egg and a Medallion. Onward.
Upon exiting, you'll notice you've descended to the bottom part. Still, hold on, and run to the extreme left for a potion in the wooden chest and a medal and a Djinn Summon in the metal one. Then enter the last cave. A Ring of Protection From Evil, if the Cleric opens the chests. Niiice. Exit. Time to end this little treasure hunt.
NOW, run right. GREAT, a Beholder. Soloing magic-users will pretty much be eaten alive, as any spells cast while its central eye is open are nullified. But, if you happen to have a certain Storm or a Flame Sword, YOU can eat him up good. Heck, the encounter pictured ended up with me emerging unscathed. Although if you desire an Eye of the Beholder (in effect, a pair of boots of levitation from the next shop, unfortunately, the shopkeeper isn't for sale D:), smack him up with normal weapons. If it fires a trianglish beam forward, WATCH OUT! It's a Flesh to stone beam. The small bubbly things are Sleep rays and the round attack it fires is a cause wounds attack. It's a tough job with it bouncing around, but you can do it! Elf and Magic User regain spells, but I guess that's not much of a help in this battle.
