The actress is your
first battle
in the game, and her only real purpose is to give you some first-hand
experience with the battle system. Her attack, a simple, weak energy
blast, is easy to dodge; just move aside when the swirling energy
around her converges on her hand. She doesn't even have a melee attack,
so you can save the ammo and club her to death. After you hit her once,
you'll gain the ability to use the Heal 1 power. |

It's Eve again! This
time she'll actually put up a fight. Her primary attack is a pair of
energy beams, fired with a gap wide enough to stand in between them.
She might even sweep them across the room to keep you on your toes. If
you get close, she'll claw you, so keep your
distance and fire away. |

As it says in the
beginning, there are two targets, the body and the tail. Start by
killing its tail. Once its tail is gone, the camera will shift and its
body will become vulnerable. Then you can just finish it off. As for
attacks, it
really likes using its claws and tail, and will use both if you get
close. If it runs at you, then it'll try to hit you with two powerful
swipes. It can also launch a series of shockwaves from its tail. After
you kill its tail, the shockwave attack is replaced by one where it
breathes three streams of fire in your general direction. In both
stages of the battle, just try staying next to it or behind it. |

There's four worms to
tangle with, and at the beginning, they're all (relatively) small.
They'll fire a sphere which explodes into a shower of spikes directed
at you once it hits the ground. Every time you kill one of the worms,
the rest of them grow, gaining more HP and a more powerful spray of
spikes. The last worm puts up the toughest fight. It will gain a new
attack, where it sweeps across the battle field with its body, and that
sweep is very difficult to dodge (if it's even possible at all). Just
keep blasting and keep some Medicine on-hand. |

This battle is trickier
than you'd think. There is very little room to dodge in the carriage,
and if Eve decides to get close and swipe you, it may come down to luck
alone as to whether you'd be able to avoid it or not. Besides her
clawing attack, she flies into the air, targets one corner of the
carriage, and blasts it soon after. When that happens, you want to be
as far in the opposite corner as humanly possible. |

There are three targets,
and you'll have to deal with them all. Sheeva has a few attacks: a
undodgable shockwave that cuts you HP in half, a lunging bite, and an
energy blast, which she'll sweep across the bottom of the room;
obviously, you should run to the top of the room to dodge it. She can
also heal one of her heads by 100 HP. |

This battle goes a lot
smoother if you have a long-ranged weapon. The spider has three
attacks. First, it can spray three huge webs across the building.
Immediately after firing those webs, it will either charge and fire a
fireball at you, or run at you in order to slash you. That's basically
all it does. The webs are usually more annoying than dangerous, and as
long as you keep your distance (and I mean REALLY keep your distance)
you probably won't get hit. The fireballs are easily dodgable as well,
since the charge time gives you plenty of warning. The trouble starts
when you actually try to shoot it. If
you're using anything less than a rifle, you're going to have to be
dangerously close to that quick slash it has. After you deal about 450
damage, you'll begin part two of the fight, which is the same as part
one, it's just played out on a different section of the rooftop.

This guy's actually
pretty easy. It'll run in a circle around the center of the room,
occasionally stopping to launch an attack. That attack can be an attack
with one or both of its claws, a spray of Defense Down causing bubbles,
or its eye laser attack. The claws and bubbles are avoided by standing
next to it. The lasers require actual dodging effort, and you'll
basically have to get out in the open and rely on your reflexes and
Haste to dodge them. If you're not running around the field to dodge
the lasers, then you should be standing next to the crab and following
it around, taking shots at every opportunity.

The best place to be
against this guy is beside or behind it. All its attacks save one
require you to be in front of it, and even though it'll make a very
quick turn towards you, you still have plenty of time to get out of the
way. It can either lunge forward, which hurts, or it can release a
torrent of electricity (it'll need to charge for that, giving you early
warning). The electrical barrage causes darkness and has a pretty good
blast radius. Finally, it can fire poisonous goop into the sky, ideally
to have it land on you. The shadows on the ground tip you off as to
where they'll land.
At the beginning, you'll only be able to target its head. After you
deal enough damage (around 500), it'll break apart into four pieces:
the head, the
tail, and two midsections. One piece will land in each corner of the
battlefield, and the second phase of the battle begins. The four pieces
will spin around, going from corner to corner faster and faster, until,
after four moves, they each attack in turn, charging you. The head will
cause poison if it hits you, and the tail darkness. At this point, it
is imperative that you kill at least one segment immediately (ideally
one of the midsections, they're the weakest) to give you a place to
hide when they start attacking. After they all launch their attack,
they'll jump up and shuffle themselves in an effort to throw you off. |

This boss is very, very
time-consuming. You'll find yourself doing a mere fraction of your
original damage at first, and you'll do that until you inflict a
significant amount of pain. It only has two attacks. First, it'll lower
its
head and charge you. This attack is nearly impossible to dodge with any
certainty unless you have Haste on; worse yet, as you weaken it, it'll
start doing multiple charges right after another, so be prepared for
that. The second is firing a bolt of lightning across the floor. Due to
the speed of the bolt, this one is also tricky to dodge; you'll really
just have to rely on your reflexes (and Haste). Standing next to the
dinosaur's head will usually cause the bolt to spiral around you and
miss, but not always.
After you deal around 650 damage , you'll break off its bony helmet.
This'll kill its defense,
but it'll also drive it nuts. It'll run around like a maniac, firing
multiple bolts in sequence, charging randomly, and generally being a
pain in the ass. At least you'll deal the last 950 damage faster than
you dealt the first 650. |

This guy's not too tough
if your reflexes are somewhat good. Just make sure you keep Haste on at
all times. He's got three attacks, and his favorite is breathing fire,
which he'll sweep in front of him, and it'll hurt like hell if you get
caught in it. Just run behind him when he does it, even if it means you
have to cram yourself between him and the wall; ten points of damage
for touching it is much better than two hundred for getting burnt. It's
also got a homing energy blast that requires charging. That's a tough
attack to avoid, since there's no real safe spot against it; have Haste
on and rely on your reflexes. Finally, it'll try to bite you if you get
in front of it. As long as you stay behind it and keep your HP high,
you shouldn't have any problem with this guy. |

Eve is the toughest boss
to date. Her main attack is firing a pair of energy blasts at you
repeatedly: naturally, they're fired with a gap between them. The
blasts themselves explode into a firey column once they hit the ground.
The straightforward way to beat this attack is to run around trying to
keep yourself from getting hit by Eve's new blasts and the fire columns
from her previous blasts. The easy way is to just keep running to the
side; if you have enough distance (and Haste), all her blasts will land
behind you. Next, she fires.a blaze of rapid-fire energy darts from her
fingers, which she'll sweep in front of her. These can either be
outdistanced or outrun and are easy to dodge if you're not caught
off-guard. She's also a fan of charging you and trying to grab you with
her tentacle. If you get caught, then you've got no choice but to
endure a series of attacks from her; the attacks are indicated by the
color of the aura around her tentacle. Red is the safest, but also the
most damaging, as you're reduced to a single HP. Blue results in
two blasts and Defense Down. Yellow is three blasts and Confusion.
White is four blasts but without any status
problems. Should her tentacle's aura be multicolored, then she'll just
thwap you instead of blasting the crap out of you. All of those are
nearly impossible to dodge without Haste. You'd think that you'd want
to stand behind her, but she's even got an attack that covers there, a
series of powerful energy waves blasting the area behind and beside
her.
All I can say is stay on the move, use Haste, and keep your HP high.
When you beat her, she'll change to her final form.

Eve's not as resilient
in her last form, but her attacks are stronger and tougher to dodge.
Now, she'll fly around pretty quickly, doing nothing
of importance. Be ready, though, since she can quickly rush you,
slapping you with her wings to inflict some serious damage and Poison.
That's not her worst attack, though. If she slows down, then
she'll either blast you to cause Stiffness (and it's undodgable, to
boot), or
she can fly up into the sky, only to hurl an energy spear at the
ground. That spear will explode over a huge area and it'll cause
Defense Down if it hits you. Watch out for it more than anything

The simplest form. It
only has two attacks, a short-ranged white shockwave that does minor
damage, and a
yellow one that drops you to 1 HP; to add insult to injury, the yellow

This form is also fairly
simple. At the beginning, it can either fire a pair of electric bolts
at you repeatedly, which you should try to stand between, or it can
fire three large semi-guided bolts, which are easy to dodge; just move
aside. After you've dealt around 800 damage, its wings will detach and
start fighting on their own. Now, the body will run from corner to
corner, firing a purple beam across the helipad, while the wings try to
ram you or shoot you with rapid-fire energy bullets. The now-grounded
body is the primary target, and beating it will trigger the next
evolution.

The hardest of the four
forms, this one is fast and has a wide arsenal of deadly attacks. It
can charge you and deliver a powerful two-hit combo, which is pretty
tough to dodge; just keep running and hope it misses. If it jumps onto
one of the four corners of the helipad, it'll charge up and release a
flurry of guided blasts. The only place you're safe against that attack
is underneath the monster itself, so make sure you put yourself there
the moment you see it jumping. Don't worry, you won't sustain any
contact damage. Finally, it can let loose with a shockwave that cuts
you HP in half and a grab that drops your HP to one. Thankfully, those
last two attacks are rare. Blast through those 3500 HP and it'll
perform yet another evolution.

The last form. The four
pyramidal things on the floor
occasionally shoot a laser at you, and that's this form's only
attack. Unfortunately, you'll quickly discover that this beast is
practically invulnerable to standard weapons; even your strongest gun
won't do more than a single point of damage. Still, you might as well
go down fighting, so keep attacking anyway. After you've done a small
amount of damage, there'll be a cutscene, and Daniel will manage to
deliver Maeda's special bullets. With those bullets in Maeda's Gun,
you'll now deal at least 999 damage per hit. Just keep firing until it
dies. You've got more than enough special ammo to last through the
battle. |

It's a clone of the
spider boss on the hospital rooftop. This time, though, there's no room

This boss is pretty
tricky. It's only got one attack, and that's using its antennae as a
whip. It's a pretty painful attack, too, but if that was all this bug
had, it'd be pretty easy. No, the tricky part is when it starts
shaking, because that means it's giving birth. You can see the larva
slowly sliding out of the bug's backside. Once it pops out, it'll
instantly metamorphosize into a second roach with identical stats to
its
mother, and once it grows to its full size, it'll join the attack
against you. All the while, the first bug has taken to the skies, where
it'll fire Poison-inflicting energy bombs at you.
You can kill either roach, but no matter what, once there's only one
left, the remaining bug will start giving birth to another. The only
way to stop the cycle is to kill both at somewhat the same time. If
you've got Burst, this will all go a lot smoother, since you'll be able
to shoot both at once. Otherwise, you'll have to alternate from
target to target, soften one up while killing the other, or some other
strategy to make sure they both die one after another. |

It's got three positions
it can move to: left, right, and center, and it's also got only one
attack, a massive energy wave that can easily deal 500+ damage. The
wave is easy enough to dodge by just running to the opposite side of
the screen while aided by Haste. It gets really tricky after you've
done a significant amount of damage to it, though, because it'll gain a
new attack, the cheapest attack in the game: 400+
damage, Defense Down, and no chance to dodge..Furthermore, you can't
move while the animation is playing, so the other bugs get in a few
free jabs while you're paralyzed by special effects. I sure
hope you have some strong medicine on-hand, as well as Revives; you're
gonna need them.
As for her offspring, the small bees always appear in pairs and are
nuisances at best. They can charge and sting you, which does hurt a
bit, and they can also heal the queen. The larger one is tougher, but
has equally crappy attacks. Even though the queen will continue to
bring them back, kill them anyway; nothing's worse than getting caught
in that energy wave just because one of those stupid little bees
decided to play hero.

The final boss! Eve's
got pretty much the same moves you do, variations at least. If she
disappears, she'll reappear moments later to deliver a series of
crushing blows, blows that will hopefully miss if you make a conscious
effort to dodge them. She's also got two attacks that involve Maya:
both are undodgable and cause status effects, namely Stiffness and
Confusion. If Maya starts circling around her, though, then she can
either heal herself, or erect a barrier, reducing all your damage to
one until you break through it. After the barrier, she'll charge up for
her own version of Energy Shot, using her body as the bullet. Get hit
(oh, don't worry, you'll get hit), and it's 1 HP for you. Of course,
this puts her at a disadvantage, since you won't be dead and you'll be
able to blaze away while she's stunned.
Besides her powerful attacks, the real problem when fighting Eve is her
healing ability that I mentioned. At first, she'll heal 1000 HP, which
won't be much. However, every time she heals herself, she'll recover an
extra 1000 HP on top of whatever she healed before. This means that she
can eventually outheal any damage you do if you let the fight drag on
too long. Now, it is possible to beat Eve despite her (eventual) insane
healing rate; I did it that way more times than I'd like to remember.
It only works if you're as fast as humanly possible: I'm talking 99
Active Time, constant Haste, and a pistol. Plus, that pistol's gotta
have 350+ attack on it, and that'll just let you scrape by.
But why bother with the race against the clock when there's an easy way
to keep her from healing at all? Just don't shoot her when Maya is on
the battlefield, even if all you see of Aya's sister is her shadow. She
will always point at you when she summons Maya, so keep an eye out for
that. The weight is off your shoulders
now, as long as you've got enough patience to wait five seconds for
Maya
to leave. |
