Abyss
Introduction / Preparation / Walkthrough / Rare Gear
Up for a challenge of endurance? Well then, look no further than the Abyss!
The Abyss is a 100-floor deep dungeon, with randomly generated floors and legions of vicious monsters hell bent on destroying anything and anyone that disturbs their rest. Should you decide to tackle all 100 floors, you'll find the most powerful monster in all of Filgaia waiting for you at the bottom!
To locate the Abyss, talk to the people in Little Rock, specifically Annette over at the ARMsmith's place. Next, get on Lombardia and fly to around X:25400 Y:7070 to spot a boulder in the way (you'll be able to tell due to its off color). Blow it up with a missile, and land Lombardia. Now, call your horses and ride northeast to X: 25194 Y: 10303 and search to discover the Abyss!
Though exploring the depths of the Abyss is entirely optional, it is actually required that you descend down to Floor 10 and obtain the Dragon Idol sometime during the game. Strategy for your first foray into the Abyss can be found in the Walkthrough, but I've also repeated it here on this page for redundancy. 8P
New to the Abyss? Then please read the information below.
The Abyss is a randomly generated dungeon that consists of 100 floors. Each floor consists of one randomly generated room of walkways, a number of gems and a sealed portal. The idea is to grab all the gems so that the portal opens, then enter the portal to jump down another floor. There are no save points, though you can leave once you reach Floor 10, 30, 60 or 100. If at any time you leave the Abyss, you will have to start again from the first floor.
The Abyss is divided into four sections: Floors 1-10, floors 11-30, floors 31-60 and floors 61-100. Each section has a different enemy set and a different background music. In addition, there are bosses on Floors 10, 30, 60 and 100.
Though you can discover the Abyss during Chapter 3 of the game's story, going any further than Floor 10 at that point is futile, due to the strength of the enemies. You should not even consider heading down into the Abyss until you have reached the end of the game, and even then, you'll need lots of preparation and spare time.
There are rewards for those who brave the deep darkness. The boss on Floor 10 drops the Dragon Idol, the guardian of Floor 30 coughs up a Booster Kit, the denizen of Floor 60 has the Bone item, and the master of the beginning and the end at the very bottom has the Sheriff Star accessory and an EX File Key! In addition, many of the enemies in the Abyss have extremely valuable items and Gear on them!
|
Still up to the challenge? Then read this little snippet about preparation!
The following is a list of things you'll want to make sure you have before exploring the Abyss.
A Migrant level of 20, and an ECN count of 40. Acquire all of the Migrant Seals and Booster Kits (aside from the one on Floor 30, of course) before you enter the Abyss; you'll need to skip a great deal of battles.
High character levels, preferably in the 80's or 90's. Not so much for the level, but for the PSS points.
The Eagle Eye and Initiative Skills activated on every one of your characters. The LAST thing you want is to be ambushed by enemies.
All 12 Mediums and fully upgraded ARMs.
Every elemental ward PSS for each character. Fire Ward is absolutely ESSENTIAL.
Lots of Potion Berries, Mega Berries, Revive Fruits, Mini Carrots, and Full Carrots will help too, but you'll only really need about 20-25 Full Carrots. You are going to need a lot of healing though.
The Finest Arts PSS. This will make it much easier to tackle the hidden boss at the bottom. Of course, you could always do it without Finest Arts... but it'd take a lot longer! Obviously, the ATT Plus and DEF Null PSS skills are useful as well, but they aren't necessary.
A high LUCK stat for everyone, as well as some Tiny Flowers. There are enemies with very valuable items available for Pickpocketing down in the Abyss, and you'll need a lot of luck to get the good stuff!
Some status prevention skills. Not necessary, but certainly helpful.
A lot of spare time. You will have to complete the Abyss in one sitting, and depending on how you play, it can take upwards to six to eight hours of gameplay to complete, which depends on how many of the battles you choose to fight. Some people complete the Abyss in no more than three hours by skipping the majority of the battles along the way; this is where a high Migrant Level really helps!

Now for the actual Abyss walkthrough.
The Abyss (Floors 1 - 10)
Enemies in this area:
Name: |
HP: |
EXP: |
Gella: |
Halved: |
Resistant: |
Weakness: |
Active: |
Absorbed: |
Aello | 1640 | 106 | 50 | NONE | WIND | EARTH | NONE | NONE |
Balphon | 870 | 151 | 176 | NONE | NONE | ICE | NONE | NONE |
Baskerville | 870 | 151 | 180 | NONE | NONE | ICE, LIGHT | FIRE | NONE |
Calupdis | 2460 | 160 | 80 | NONE | NONE | NONE | NONE | NONE |
Cannon Buffalo | 1880 | 318 | 460 | NONE | NONE | FIRE | NONE | NONE |
Mad Gasser | 1640 | 106 | 53 | NONE | NONE | FIRE | NONE | NONE |
Strategy: If you've been following my walkthrough, you'll most likely have a Migrant Level of 14. The battles in the Abyss can be tricky at your current level, but with a Migrant Level as high as the one you SHOULD have, you'll be able to skip all but the Calupdis battles. And should your ECN run a bit low, the gems that open the portals will restore it.
If you want to fight the enemies here, then be my guest. Refrigerate groups of Baskervilles or Balphons, attack Cannon Buffalo with various elemental Arcana and attacks, and summon Moor Gault on Mad Gassers. Be aware that Aello can cause Poison and Disease, and can swipe an item and then escape from battle immediately.
Then there's Calupdis. This funny looking enemy steals 10% of your Gella on the first turn. On the second, he runs away with it! It's in your best interest to kill him as soon as possible, but there's a really cool trick you can do with him if you're feeling lucky! First, equip as many characters as you can with the Gella Boost Personal Skill. On the first turn, attack him to get his HP down low, but do not kill him. Let him take 10% of your money, and on the next turn, have everyone Gatling him. He normally gets his attack after Jet and before Gallows, so keep this in mind. If you kill him before he gets away, you get your money back, but with the Gella Boost skill, you have a 25% chance of getting DOUBLE that! With 4 Gella Boosts, that means you'll always get double your money back!
|
Simply travel down 10 the floors of the Abyss. It takes a bit of time, mind you. Once you reach the 10th portal, a boss will attack. |
Boss Battle: Ephrem Zein
Boss Name: |
HP: |
EXP: |
Gella: |
Halved: |
Resistant: |
Weakness: |
Active: |
Absorbed: |
Ephrem Zein: |
12000 | 17000 | 20000 | LIGHT | NONE | DARK | NONE | NONE |
Boss' Attacks:
Prepare Intercepts: (used at beginning of turn, if Ephrem is damaged before cancelling intercepts, he'll use Luminous Impact)
Intercepts Cancelled: (used after Gallows' turn, only if Luminous Impact wasn't used)
Luminous Impact: (light-elemental damage to your entire party)
|
How To Win:
This boss can be tricky if you try and shoot without asking questions first. You see, this boss has a constant Reflect Arcana, but that's not what your main concern is. Ephrem Zein doesn't technically "attack"; rather, he performs a command called "Prepare Intercepts" at the beginning of every turn, and then cancels the Intercepts after Gallows' turn. If you damage Ephrem before he cancels his Intercepts, he'll blast your party with Luminous Impact!
The best way to win is to open with a Mystic + Lucky Card and a Gella Card. Cast Hyper on Clive, and every turn, before you attack, switch the manual turn order so that Clive goes first, followed by the rest of your team. You won't take any damage, as Ephrem will be unable to counter! Still, this will take a while, so if you're feeling lucky, pump up your Weakness Skill and summon Luceid on him when his HP hits about 6000 or so.
|
If you're only here to obtain the Dragon Idol, then jump out of the Abyss now! Otherwise, continue on.. |

Voidra | 3830 | 970 | 1020 | NONE | NONE | NONE | NONE | NONE |
Strategy: You might want to start skipping some of the battles from this point forward. Remember, grabbing the gems that open up the floor teleporters restore your ECN and your VIT, so don't think that you'll lose your ECN forever should you skip some battles.
Of particular interest are the Brant enemies. They appear in groups of four, and on their very first turn, they sacrifice themselves, dealing damage equal to their max HP to one of your team members. And since they have 2000 HP, that means that if they strike first, you'll take 8000 damage! Should you run into a group of Brants, do whatever it takes to kill them before they make a move, or at least reduce their HP totals to a much lower amount. Summon if you have to!
Also on the dangerous list are the Vampire enemies. Have a strong attacker like Clive kill them with one shot, but make SURE it kills, or you'll face a nasty counterattack, which drains your EXP! Do NOT use Arcana on them, or they will use Kirlian Buster to actually reduce your MAX HP by 20%! Should this happen, use the Reset Arcana to start over and try again!
The rest of the enemies are none too special. Full elemental protection will nullify many of the enemies attacks. Doppelganger will use Install Data to gain your team members' abilities, but they have fairly low HP totals. EM Being and Gasnoid cannot be hit with normal attacks, so just use Arcana. Fire Genius has a very nasty fire based attack that will instantly kill you without protection, so pump up that Fire Ward skill. Leprechaun actually locks out Arcana and Extension commands, so you'll have to shoot it. Little Grey might try Human Experimentation, so take care of it quickly and be ready with a Holy Root. Unlucky will waste his turns temporarily reducing your Luck, but it will be restored at the end of battle, so don't worry.
One more thing... beware the Voidra enemy; it will sometimes use the Eject attack to return you to the first floor of the Abyss! If you run into one, have everyone use Gatling on it to ensure you kill it before it attacks!
|
This time, head down the next 20 floors of the Abyss. Once you reach the 30th portal, a boss will attack. |
Boss Battle: Luranaire Zein X 3

Intercepts Cancelled: (used after Gallows' turn, only if Luminous Impact wasn't used)
Luminous Impact: (light-elemental damage to your entire party)
|
How To Win:
This boss is nearly identical to Ephrem Zein, whom you battled earlier. The difference here is that there are now 3 Zeins to take down. However, the same strategies apply. This should be a very easy win.

You're doing well! Take a bit of a break, and prepare for another 30 floors of agony fun! |

Strategy: Some of the meanest monsters from floors 11 - 30 join a host of new baddies for floors 31 - 60.
Geldams and Forbiddens are nasty foes who like to attack in groups. At first, it might seem that there is no way to defeat them, but try casting Extension + Dark Luceid. This should do enough damage to wipe out groups of them. A Demiurgos has a lot of HP, but Dark Matter will wear him down fairly fast. Try to take down a Hyperion in one shot, or it will counterattack with a mean physical blow. Hit the Lizard enemies with their respective elemental weaknesses.
One of the most frequent enemies is the annoying Lily Pad. Not only are these things incredibly stupid looking, but they are very boring to fight, and they take quite a bit of punishment. They have no weaknesses, so just keep plugging away at them.

How To Win:
Again, this boss is identical to Ephrem Zein, except this time, there are four of them for you to take down. Use the same strategy you used to take down Ephrem and Luranaire, and you'll have no problems at all. Do it quickly though; on the fourth turn, the Zeins will merge together, and their combined form is more difficult than the separated form!

Strategy: The enemies who dwell in these areas are the absolute toughest ones you'll find in Wild ARMs 3. Activate as many elemental ward skills as you can, or you'll find yourself taking massive amounts of damage as the enemies pummel you with powerful elemental attacks!
To make matters worse, the big beasties (who eagle-eyed players should recognize from Wild ARMs 2) have very high HP totals. You may want to simply begin battles by having each one of your characters unload a Gatling blast on some of the bigger ones.
Also, Do NOT attack Grendel with Arcana! Don't use Inspire on Last Batallion! And beware: Master Therion will use Kirlian Buster sometimes, so be ready with the Reset Arcana!
Now is a very good time to start skipping battles if you haven't begun already!

Boss' Attacks:
100 Billion Degrees: (massive fire-elemental magic damage to your entire party)
Giant Impact: (physical attack to one)
Counter Sweep: (physical attack to one; Ragu uses this to counterattack any physical attacks)
|
How To Win:
First thing's first; EQUIP EVERYONE WITH FIRE WARD! If you don't, you will be killed by 100 Billion Degrees.
Ragu is a very difficult boss... in theory. With the right procedure and precaution, you'll find that he's not hard to beat at all; the battle is merely time-consuming.
With that in mind, begin the battle by having Virginia Mystic a Full Carrot. Next, have everyone spend a few turns casting as many positive statuses as possible on every character: Protect, Shield, Distortion, Hyper (not Valiant), Turbulence, etc. Use Permanence to allow these to stay until the end of the battle. Once you're done all this (you'll probably end up flipping your Mediums around quite a bit), set your Mediums back up the right way.
Assuming you have Clive with Finest Arts (I'm assuming you do), have him start using normal attacks to deplete his ammunition to 0. MAKE SURE YOU HEAL HIM AFTER EVERY ATTACK TO OFFSET THE COUNTERATTACKS! Get his ammo down to 0, his FP to 100 (should be 100 after the Mystic'd carrot), and then unleash his Finest Arts at full power. This will do a LOT of damage to Ragu, but still not nearly enough to kill him.
After that, repeat the process a bit. Heal Clive back to full while he wastes turns casting spells that DON'T target Ragu (we want him doing something that doesn't involve guarding or attacking so we can keep his ARM empty). And give him another Full Carrot or 4 Mini Carrots to get his FP back to 100. With 100 FP, full HP and no ammo in his ARM, have him Finest Arts again. And keep doing that until Ragu finally dies.
Much like Nemesis in FFX, all Ragu takes is a lot of damage. Using this strategy, you are guaranteed a win as long as you don't run out of healing items and carrots..
|
Now head up to the top floor of the Abyss using the teleporter to find that the way out is blocked by another holographic archive! Guess who? |

How To Win:
Ragu is back.. and this time, he's pissed!
This fight is almost identical to your first battle with Ragu, with one exception; he's tossed away his normal physical attack, and he now has access to every common attack-all elemental spell! Equip as many Elemental Wards as you can up to full!
That being said, Round 2 with the big R Oh R is pretty much a carbon copy of the first fight, except with more HP. Use the exact same strategy, and prepare for a lengthier, if not a little easier, battle. As long as you brought along a healthy supply of carrots and berries, you'll find the "hardest battle in WA3" to be quite easy.

Congratulations! You have completed the Abyss! Have a Sheriff Star and an EX File Key for your troubles! |

The following snippet of text is from Fayth.

Getting Items Efficiently
Now, I don't know about you, but personally, 100 floors of continuous fights
doesn't really sound all that pleasant to me. Actually, when you get right
down to it, the object is to get what you need and then get the hell out.
This section is dedicated to showing you how to steal as efficiently as
possible so that you don't have to waste any more time in here than you want
or have to.
To get the most out of your time here, you are usually going to have to steal
like mad. Any accessory you found in Filgaia (side for the coveted Full Libra,
Prism Crown, Comet Mark, Golden Dawn, Dist Dims, and a number of others avail-
able), you can find here. If you want to begin the ultimate setup, then this
is the place to go. But in order to get everything you want as soon as possible,
you are going to need a few things. First off, Gallows is your best friend here.
Equip him with Chapapanga (Lucky Hand) immediately. Following that, make sure
you have Luck Up and Disarm filled up at least to their 3rd level. Lastly, make
sure to have Dan Duiram on Clive (or someone slower than Gallows. You will be
doing alot of 'Restarting', and of alot of 'Replaying' during your time here.
When you have multile enemies that are grouped together, don't hesitate to use
Extension 'Pickpocket' to get the job done 3x faster. For even quicker results,
combine this with Replay. When you get to Levels 30+ up, there are numerous
single enemies that have the best items in the game. Don't even think of trying
steal from them without a luck rating of 'Best', and don't waste any time when
trying to get their items. A 'replayed' 'Pickpocket' every turn can save you
literally HOURS of time. Don't end up like me wasting 2 hours on trying to
steal from an enemy.
Also, a note about stealing from "Mu"; Mu runs away during his first turn [slimy] so you have to be lucky,
surprise him, steal the first round, and reset the second round if not successful. Replay your Pickpocket, obviously.
So... there you have it. Obtaining the rare Gear from the Abyss is time-consuming and frustrating, but if you are absolutely determined to create a mastered file, you can gather 4 Sheriff Stars by playing the EX Game over and over again, and then work on obtaining the best Gear setup possible for every one of your characters by grabbing the stuff from the Abyss. Of course, this takes lots of time and dedication, but hopefully these tips will speed things up significantly.
