Stage
4: Machonom
|
As you begin the stage, there
is a shop in plain sight. Buy what you wish, then head right.
(Automated Sequence)
A car smacks into Shyna, knocking her into the air. It
comes to a stop as several Polly Peepers surround it. Inside is
Delia, who tells the Pollies to lure the Messenger to the TV station.
|
After a bit, Shyna lands
again, and Delia's bodyguard, Samson, goes on the attack.
Attribute: Silhouette
Life: 1000
Spirit: 1500
Credits: 0
This is pretty simple. Samson's weak point is his hands.
His attacks are limited to a clap, swiping at you with his hands (which
can be leaped), and the occasional Silhouette energy ball (easily
dodged due to its speed). The only trick is that Samson's hands
have a "Reflect Attack" quality while they're swiping at you, so you'll
want to wait for him to stop his current swing before you shoot them.
|
|
|
Periodically during the
battle,
Delia will shout at Samson to watch where he's driving, at which point
he'll turn the car, sending Shyna flying. Once the car (and
Shyna) come to a stop, the battle continues.
|
(Automated Sequence)
Once Samson's defeated, the car will be totally wrecked, Delia will
speak with Shyna for a bit, and then the car crashes into the side of
the TV studio.

Inside the studio is another
shop. Just to the right is a brief scuffle with a few more Polly
Peepers and some Specters. They don't have any new tricks this
time around, so this should be pretty easy.
|
(Automated Sequence)
Shyna continues on to a set of the show "You Die, You Lose!" and meets
Sara, the host. After introducing her as the Messenger of
Destruction (and annoying Shyna to no end), Shyna gets dropped through
a trapdoor into the Battle Game.

In here, you can drop through
the floor to find a shop selling Level 6 Grattoni, plus the usual
assortment of weapons and power ups. Buy what you wish, then
continue to the right to meet the current champion of the Battle Game.
|
The champion is quite a loony
guy
named Faust who fights with shadow puppets. Probably my favorite
minor character in the game.
Attribute: Silhouette
Life: 400
Spirit: 400
Credits: 100
Faust's attacks are quite powerful, both when striking you and when
deflected back at him. That said, Faust utilizes three different
shadow puppets to attack: A satellite dish that shoots a large beam, a
tank that shoots several single shots, and a dragon that uses a gust
attack and a flame attack. You can Reflect all three of these
back at Faust and win in a surprisingly short time.
|
|
|
When Faust is defeated, a
brief sequence will play where he self-destructs via a bomb
shadow. Gotta love that laugh.

When you return, Sara will say
a few words, and then leap into battle herself.
Attribute: Mirage
Life: 500
Spirit: 500
Credits: 500
Sara utilizes a variety of gambling-themed attacks, including cards
(stand under the Angel card; the others will shoot lightning), marbles
that can trip you up for minor damage (Reflect Attack them and you can
trip Sara instead), launches Mirage-attribute bombs, and swings her
sign at you for very minor Normal damage.
Sara is tricky to Cash Bash, mostly because she tends to escape your
grasp moments after using the Grudge Grab. So you'll have to
punch her once or twice, then repeat several times to get all of her
cash. It's a bit easier if you've reflected some Marbles, as she
will trip over them and become vulnerable to being grabbed momentarily.
|
|
|
Sara also utilizes the large
slot machine in the background in combat. The treasure box on her
back will absorb your attacks and add to the number of "coins" put into
the slot machine. You can stop the rollers on the slot machine by
pressing any button. If you manage to line up three of the same
icon, you'll get a variety of different effects.
Circle - Get Fatima (amount depends on number of coins)
Triangle - Get Mana (amount depends on number of coins)
Polly Peeper - Creates Pollies equal to the number of coins
Specter - Creates Specters equal to the number of coins
Credits - Creates credits, amount depends upon number of coins
Lucky - Sara gets zapped with a Normal-attribute lightning attack for
significant damage.
Black smiley - Shyna gets zapped with a Normal-attribute lightning
attack. You can Reflect it to reduce damage.
Once Sara is defeated, she'll knock you out of the studio, where
another shop awaits. Buy what you wish, then continue to the
right.

(Automated Sequence)
Hal and Delia will speak for a bit, with Hal becoming upset at Delia
for his reckless plan to lure the messenger into a trap. He
mentions deleting Delia's "precious Serah." Shyna then shows up,
and Delia announces that he'll defeat her.

Delia's
battle isn't difficult, just annoying. He remains in the
background, occasionally inhaling some soup from the large bowl to
increase his Spirit level. When it hits 100, he'll launch a fiery
attack at Shyna.
The trick to this fight is to grab the Specters before they can toss
ingredients into the soup, and heave the Specters themselves in.
Doing this enough times will cause the soup to change attribute.
If Delia inhales the soup while it's Silhouette attribute, he'll take
damage. You can get to the other side of the screen by hopping
off the small white block in the soup bowl.
This gets a bit more difficult as he gets lower on life, because
Specters will tend to appear on the opposite side more often, and Delia
will begin using "salt" to immediately return the soup to Mirage
attribute. Regardless, keep tossing Specters into the bowl and
this battle should soon be over.
Delia is quite rich, but unfortunately there's no way to get at his
money. A shame, 5000 credits would do a lot of good at this point.

(Automated Sequence)
Once Delia's defeated, the soup bowl will explode, blasting a
hole in the wall and flooding the streets of Machonom with soup.
As Shyna gets swept away by the wave, Bug appears and teleports her out.
