Every time you enter a dungeon or combat area, you and every other player playing will receive a random bonus point condition. You will earn or lose points based on how well you satisfy that condition assigned to you. The more bonus points you earn, the better your chances at receiving the best artifacts and first dibs on choosing which one to keep in a multiplayer game. Playing a given area and leaving before beating the boss will prompt you to lose all points up to that point; you must complete a level fully before bonus points are awarded and artifacts available to be chosen. Note: For those who don't want the randomness of the conditions and want to know what they receive each time they enter an area, simply plug up your GBA to the GCN and view your bonus condition. Note 2: Along with the conditions below, you get 1 bonus point for every enemy killed and every item picked up.
Bonus Conditions |
Pick Up Items | If you pick up any items except for gil, you earn bonus points. You can't earn points for picking up items you have dropped. |
Pick Up Money | Any time you pick up gil, you earn bonus points. You can't earn points for picking up gil you have dropped. |
Defeat Enemies With Spell Fusion | Anytime you strike the killing blow with a fused spell (Blizzara, Fira, Thundara, etc.), you earn bonus points. |
Defeat Enemies With Focus Attacks | Anytime you strike the killing blow with a focus attack, you earn bonus points. |
Defeat Enemies With Spells | Anytime you strike the killing blow with a spell, you earn bonus points; fused spells count (Blizzaga, Thundaga, Firaga, etc.). |
Open Treasure Chests | Anytime you open a treasure chest, you earn bonus points. You'll earn points for even opening a Mimic chest! |
Inflict Damage | Whenever you deal damage to an enemy, you earn bonus points. The amount of damage does not affect the points, so using all weak attacks works just as well. |
Take Physical Damage | If an enemy hits you with a physical attack, you earn bonus points. Magical attacks do not add to your point total. |
Take Magical Damage | If an enemy hits you with a magic spell, you earn bonus points. Physical attacks do not add to your point total. |
Avoid Damage | You start at 100 points. Each attack you suffer will decrease your point total. |
Don't Cast Spells | You start at 100 points. Each spell you cast will decrease your point total. |
Don't Use Focus Attacks | You start at 100 points. Each focus attack you use will decrease your point total. |
Don't Physical Attacks | You start at 100 points. Each physical attack you use will decrease your point total. |
Don't Heal Yourself | You start at 100 points. Every time you use a spell or an item to heal, your point total will decrease. |
Don't Pick Anything Up | You start at 100 points. Each item you pick up will decrease your point total. Exception is money that other players drop for you. |
To calculate the bonus points earned, you take your condition (be it starting at 100 points or starting at 0 points); you take the points earned for meeting the bonus condition and combine it with your enemy kill total and your item pick-up total to get your final result. Below is a chart that displays the number of bonus points you will earn (or lose) depending on your condition and the level you happen to be in:
