Characters

Here is a listing of all of the characters you will run into during your adventure. I have also included brief descriptions of each character, as well as a portrait, and if applicable, a battle picture or area map screenshot! Now, there may be spoilers on this page, but I have organized the characters into CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER, meaning the order in which you meet them. If you don't want to know who shows up next, then don't scroll down too far!

Jack: Ninja Boy #1

A young boy ninja who travels across Chinaland, pretty much perfecting his ninja skills, I guess.... 0_o . Nothing is really known about him, except he is the character you will control throughout the game. Jack hears about trouble in the town of Yokan, and decides to see what's going on, which leads to his adventure to save the world! Yippie!

Ryu: Our OTHER Ninja Boy

Ryu is Jack's brother, and his skills and techniques are identical to his brother's in every way. He doesn't appear in the game, except during Boss Battles, and in the 2 Player Mode, where Jack and Ryu are Player 1 and 2, respectively.

Rub-A-Doc: The Universal Peace Act Leader

Rub-A-Doc (odd name!) appears in the very beginning of the game, before you take control of Jack. He appears over Chinaland along with a huge fleet of spaceships. His mission is to make peace with the leader of Chinaland, Emperor Chin of Yokan, or so he claims. Together, they sign a peace treaty, and after attaining a great amount of popularity from the citizens of Chinaland, he suddenly leaves. Shortly after this, Yokan is robbed....

Emperor Chin: Leader of Chinaland

The Emperor of the region of Chinaland, Chin resides in the royal palaces of Yokan. He is worried his fine city will be ruined by the thieves who have stolen all the workers (...?) from his town. Help Emperor Chin save the economy (..?????)

Prince Bonbon: Chin's Son>

The young prince of Yokan is back! Only this time, he seems to have lost his little obsession with Jack and Ryu and is quite calm.

Notruedamus: The Prophet of Yokan

Lives in the palace located behind Emperor Chin's palace, or south of Yokan in the Japanese version. The great prophet of Yokan who can supposedly see the future, this "crabby looking old man" helps our heroes on their quest a couple of times. Yes, I know what his name is supposed to mean!

Leila: Paper-Rock-Scissors player

Not much to say about her. She lives in the Janken House south of the Samurai's Cave, and enjoys challenging people to Paper Rock Scissors games. I personally think she should meet up with the RPS freak in Xenogears... O_o.

Gengai: The Wise Sensai of Horizon Gate

The sensai who trained Rick, who is the master of Kung-Fu. Gengai is getting old and pretty feeble looking, but he still trains would-be ninjas in his temple and doles out pairs of Spider Shoes to those people who can complete his rigorous training.

Rick (Ryuuhi): The Kung-Fu Master!

Funny looking, eh? Rick is the disciple of the great Gengai, and also has a temple where our heroes can train and grow strong. Rick helps out the heroes numerous times throughout the game. Rick is actually Ryuuhi from the Culture Brain game entitled Flying Warriors. His Japanese name is Ryuuhi, and as you probably already know, Ryuuhi is a staff member here at RPGclassics!

The Soundmaster

For some reason, this odd man lives in the Special Stages, and lets people play his waste-of-time mini game that isn't really worth much anyways. I'd say let him rot in the Special Stages, and save your money for something more useful.

Red Ninja Gem

Red Ninja Gem and Blue Ninja Gem run a mini-game in the Samurai Cave (it's Concentration). Fun to play, indeed. I'd say give it a few tries.

Blue Ninja Gem

See above. That's it for these two. It doesn't say anything else at all about these characters.

Samurai: Guardian of Edo City

This fierce warrior protects the exit of the Samurai Cave, which leads to Edo City. There is no getting past him until you recieve the Yellow Auraball from the Thiefmaster.

King Toro: Ruler of Edo City

Toro and his daughter Tamago reside in the huge palace in the northern end of Edo City, and Toro needs you to defeat Bongoman and restore his great city to it's past glory. When you do, Toro lets you keep the Red Auraball that was stolen, and gives you your first boat, the Arc-De-Travel! Toro is a good friend of Emperor Chin, by the way.

Princess Tamago: Daughter of Toro

Looking suspiciously like a pallete-swap of Leila from earlier, Tamago lives with her father Toro in Edo City. She calls the heroes "cute" (awww...), and supposedly blushes when you tell her that you saved the city. I think she likes you!

Samurai Scorpio: "Warrior" of Edo City

Umm, okay.... thank god this guy is a scorpion..... or i'd have some qualms about that strange hair design on his head... O_o. Not to mention the fact that he's wearing LIPSTICK! AHAHAHAHAHAHA... ahem, sorry. This "warrior" sits in his training dojo in Edo City, and gives out Dragon Eggs to anyone who can beat his minigame. However, Scorpio suffers from severe mental retardation, therefore his mini game is the exact same thing every time. Though it is not nice to take advantage of the handicapped, get as many Dragon Eggs as you can off him. It's like taking candy from a blind, deaf, dumb, mute, retarded, tied-to-a-cactus-and-beaten-with-a-steel-rod baby!

Bongoman: The evil rock superstar!

Ahh, the first evil guy in the game. Bongoman masterminded the attacks on Yokan and Edo City. His "Furious Electric Sound" causes petrification! Yikes!

Dr. Justice: The Genius Inventor!

Dr. Justice is a funny looking goat-human inventor who is on vacation in Kingland. His devices help our heroes out of many dangerous situations!

King Ashur: Leader of Kingland

The king who rules Kingland. No personality whatsoever, and no use to you in the game. Screw him.

Julia: Princess Of Fairyland

Aww, the fair and beautiful Julia. She lives in a mushroom in Fairy Town, and is upset because her father has locked himself away in the Fairy Tower, and because she loves the handsome King Romel. Why not help her out?

Julia's Father

This stubborn man is opposed to the Project 3-F that Romel is in charge of, so he locks himself in a tower..... uhh, yeah. It's up to you to get him back to Julia and let him know what's really going on!

Errandbot: Pfffft!

Cute little Errandbot is locked in a treasure chest in Fairy Tower. Help him out, and he'll become your personal shopping robot! Pffft!

Scheherazade: Maiden Of The Desert

Another cameo appearance from another Culture Brain game, Magic of Scheherazade! Anyways, she lives in the town of Celestern, and tells our heroes that a valuable magic known as "Hyper Vision" can be found in the Tower of Belba to the south.

Exchangeya Guy

I HATE this guy! He runs a game in Celestern where you choose a treasure chest and keep it's contents (the only thing you ever win is air). His game is a ripoff at 10 Medals a piece. What a load of crap!

Airosche: "Old hag" of Belba

Most people think she is some crazy old fortune teller locked in Belba, but she's not! Told you not to listen to the crowd! Airosche is a fortune teller who gives Jack and Ryu the Hyper Vision spell if they can complete her training course. Later, she fortells that Romel will betray Julia.... oooh, just like a soap opera!

Miss Finny: Crazy Fairy Lady

This funny looking and overweight fairy-godmother type lady lives in a cave on the way to Satoon. Beat her in a fight for the De Tecoy spell and a "Take care!".

King Romel: Ruler Of Satoon

Romel is Julia's boytoy, who rules over the kingdom of Satoon. Normally a kind man, he has been acting very strangely lately, hiding in the Ghost Tower.... do you sense something... evil?

General Konk: Evil Knight Boss! Yes!

C'mon, you knew that wasn't Romel, right? No? Well, let me explain. The real Romel has been kidnapped and impersonated by this guy, General Konk. In order to save Fairyland, you have to win the boss fight against evil Mr.Konk! Good luck!

Prince Lama: Ruler of Anca

Poor Prince Lama. His sacred Temple Bayon and blue Auraball have been taken from him by the Pitts Gang. When you meet him in Arcadia, he asks you to get them back for him. Expect to be rewarded if you do! That's the standard rule for RPGs! Do something for someone and get something back (except for unlocking Lone Wolf's cell in FF5, because he steals the treasure in Jacohl Cave!)

Wise Man Slowpo

Mr Slowpo lives up on a mountain north of Arcadia, and offers "sage-like" advice to those willing to climb up to the top. It's too bad he's not really a wiseman, but just a crazy old tool living up on some god-forsaken rock, drooling the days away. As the name implies, he is really really Slooooooooooooooow...

Dr Archeo

Dr Archeo is an archeologist (duh!) searching for a "giant" from an ancient civilization. You'll find him at Mt. Kyojin. He offers to help you get into the Temple Bayon, and then returns to look for the giant, which he gives you later in the game.

The Pitts Gang

These guys are "Evil Incarnate" (they said it, not me), and have taken over and desecrated the holy Temple Bayon under the orders of General Bismol. Lama is counting on you to destroy them!

King Atlant: Ruler of Moo

As King Atlant explains, you have visited Moo at the worst possible time. The evil General Bismol has summoned Nargi, and the citizens are in shock and constant fear of attack. He explains that you will not be able to get to Nargi without a submarine. By the way, Atlant is one of the few people who knows the secret of the Auraballs.

Nargi: Evil Sea Beast!

The evil sea monster who is rumored to have sunk the city of Moo to the ocean floor aeons ago. Nargi has been summoned by General Bismol to wreak havoc on the town of Moo once again! Nargi cannot be defeated by ordinary means.... perhaps the answer lies elsewhere? (HINT: It's NOT Doctor Justice!)

Whale

The first time you go up against Nargi, you are eaten by this thing! Ewwww! There's an old man living inside!

Old Whaleman

After being eaten by the whale, but before digestion (thank God) this old man living in the whale explains he saved you from death against Nargi, and tells you you'll need to go to a place called Ghoulland if you ever want any chance of killing Nargi once and for all. You can "drive" the whale by going up to the back wall, by the way! How do you "drive" a whale, anyways? Best to leave some questions unanswered, I guess.

General Bismol: Eviler Sea Beast Than Nargi!

Hiding in the depths of the Sunken Ship (hey, just like Jonathan Jones from SMRPG!), Bismol is the evil mastermind behind all the Nargi attacks and Pitts Gang stuff. He knows what the auraballs do, and he wants them all! He won't hesitate to use his "Peptodash" to take them from you! (hehehe, Pepto Bismol.... hahaha! GYAHAHAHA!)

Oly: Head of the Futureland Sports Committee

Oly lives in Athletown, and his town is under attack by Jack and Ryu???? Guh??? No, actually, the town is under attack by clones of Jack and Ryu, and when you first meet up with Oly, he is very rude. It's up to you to prove to Oly that you are not criminals!

B.B Virgo: A Celestial

Yay! Someone in Athletown who is on your side! B.B Virgo challenges you to a minigame, and gives you the Magic Wind once you win. She also tells you to see Rick in Horizon Gate to find a weapon strong enough to destroy the clones!

Clone Jack and Ryu:

Not only are these guys terrorizing the innocents, but they copy EVERY DAMN THING YOU SAY!! You should kill them just for that! Too bad you need to fight them at least twice!

Bad News Boss

I think this guy is supposed to be an evil "team-spirit" type guy, or a disgruntled Tony the Tiger from the Frosted Flakes box... o_O. He's the guy who programmed the clones, and he hangs out in the Sewer Canal. You need to get the Gold Auraball back from him! Watch out for his "team spirit" enemies, they're GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT.... er, I mean, they're deadly!

Vigilante Dog and Vigilante Monkey

Someone please explain to me what being dead and living in a cave has to do with being a Vigilante..... okay, no one has any clue.. thought so. Anyways, Vigilante Dog and Monkey live in Vigilante Cave, and warn you of the state of the continent: completely overrun by Galands (evil guys). They allow you to pass through the sewers of Vigilante Cave, which leads to Cactus Town.

Apax: Chief of Cactus Town

Apax is your typical "indian" stereotype, who tells you in his foreign tongue that he lent his Marvel Box to Rub-A-Doc of the U.P.M to save the world. However, Rub-A-Doc has been kidnapped by Galands! Ack!

Mr ABC: A "New Character?!?!"

Mr. ABC is some kind of deranged teacher who lives in Mt. Rocky. Answer his question correctly to proceed to the end of the game, just stay as far back as possible, and keep him away from children and/or small animals.

Robo-Doc: The EVIL Last Boss!

I'm not telling who this is! You should be able to figure it out!

General Lion

General Lion shows up after the ending credits, and steals all the auraballs from Jack and Ryu, but only in the Japanese version. You will battle him in Ninja Boy 2 for Game Boy, the sequel to this game!
