The game walks you through this one itself, but...
You start off with only one Kobold on the screen. Stand in place by repeatedly hitting "Y" and let the monster come to you. When he's right next to you, turn, and hit him with your sword. It should take 3 hits or so (not counting the times you'll miss). He'll hit you too, but don't worry about that. Once he's dead, another Kobold will pop up across the screen. The game will prompt you to heal yourself using the skill "Recover." You mine as well do so. Hit the "X" button, and select "Recover." Now just stand in place as you did for the first Kobold, and when the second one arrives, kill him the same way.
