Poper to Lilaty

When you arrive in Poper, gather information by talking to the various NPCs. You will learn that Poper used to be a lively, populated village until a disease spread by the dirty water around Lagoon Castle killed off a lot of the inhabitants. Go to the church of the town and talk to the pope. The priest will tell you that a certain Mint plant will help cure the plague. It is, of course, up to you to go into the trecherous Siegfried Castle to get it. Anyway, get out of the village and head west for Siegfreid Castle.

So now you're in Siegfried Castle! Walk around, kill some enemies, and get experience. Go west through a small passage and walk south until you see a chest with the  Force Sword in it. Hang around, and go east from there for the  Defensive Ring. Go back to the entrance and go north to enter the second part of the dungeon and some new enemies. Go southwest and circle back east for a half-covered room with a chest in it. In the chest is the  Maxim Shield. Anyway, walk further southeast and you'll eventually come upon the chest in the corner. In it is the sought-after  Mint. Look in the western area for the  Thunder Armor and the northeastern area for the  Power Ring. Now that you've got all the goodies, pack up and head back to Poper.

Head to the church and take the Mint to the pope. He will take the Mint and cure the people. Meanwhile, he allows you to enter a secret door behind him (a window) into the basement to communicate with some spirits. Talk to the spirits in order. The first spirit will tell you to go on, the second will thank you, the third will make vague remarks about your powers, the fourth will make even vaguer comments about light and darkness, the fifth will continue in that trend, the sixth will give you encouragement, the seventh will give you something actually useful (the  Star Staff), and the eighth and final spirit will tell you how Siegfriend Castle is under the control of the demon Duma, and gives you  Duma's Key so you might go to the warp point in the castle and defeat him. He then advises you to go to Lagoon Castle afterwards.

A note on the Star Staff is that although some enemies are immune to certain types of magic, the Star Staff's magic overcomes these immunities somehow.

Return to Siegfried Castle, and before entering the first grey door you see, but make sure you're at full health first. Don't bother trying any of the other grey doors, because they won't open. Now prepare yourself to do battle with Duma. Upon defeating him you will receive the  Key of Siegfried and the  Water Crystal. Head out, and explore the other door. You'll see a bunch of stairs leading up to the next floor. Proceed there and be prepared to meet some new enemies. Go through this level and go up to the third floor with the stairs to the east. You'll meet Thor and his friend, Battler. They'll have already floated Lagoon Castle, and apparently Thor is under the evil clutches of some people. They'll do a disappear trick, so step on the warp symbol (it looks like a ying-yang).

You'll have arrived in an area called Gnome Tree. There's nothing to do except go in the large tree in the center.
