Modifications

The basic values of weapons and armor are not so important as their modifications. They can contain of a special material which makes them stronger (or sometimes weaker), or they can be enchanted to inflict magical damage or increase certain parameters.

There are two important numbers for weapons: The To-Hit-modifier increases your chance to hit an enemy, and the damage rate determines the damage you can inflict if you hit.
