Castle Whiteshield Walkthrough

Corak's Notes on Castle Whiteshield:

Castle Whiteshield is the stronghold of Zealot, King Righteous. The castle was once attacked by Dwarves under the command of Tumult. The attack was thwarted, but before they were captured the Dwarves locked Zealot's treasure in magical chests. Praythos, the King's priest, will give a hardy reward for the return of Artifacts of Good.

Monsters in this area: Castle Guards, Black Knights, Paladins.

Map of Castle Whiteshield:

Entrance/Exit.

King Zealot. Approach his throne, and he will give you a quest: You are to bring him Ultimate Power Orbs, so that the forces of Good may defeat the forces of Evil and Neutrality. You get 1 million experience for every Orb you give him. The award you get after giving Zealot an Orb will track the amount of Orbs you've given him so far. Watch it, though; he takes ALL Ultimate Power Orbs your party members are carrying when you talk to him. After giving him 11 Orbs, he will use their power to destroy Castle Dragontooth and Castle Blood Reign. After this, the alignment of all party members will become good, plus they will receive the award "Champion of Good", and the Blue Priority Pass Card. So make sure this is what you want, and that you've finished your business at the other castles before doing so. You can't finish the game without giving 11 Ultimate Power Orbs to one of the three Kings, though.

Praythos. He will also give you a quest: To return the Ancient Artifacts of Good to him. You will receive a new award from doing so, which will track the amount of Artifacts of Good you've given to Praythos. For every Artifact you give him, all party members with Good alignment will receive 500000 experience points. All other party members will receive 100000 experience per Artifact. Every time you visit Praythos, you will only give him one Artifact, so if you have more than one Artifact of Good, be sure to visit him more than once.

Entrance to the Whiteshield Dungeon. You'll need the password to get in.

Castle Whiteshield seems like a pretty safe area, since there are no monsters around... at first. Talk to Zealot and Praythos first, see above for details about the quests they give you. On the way to King Zealot, the jester will appear to tell you a joke. He's got a million of 'em! Well, maybe not quite that many, but there are a lot of different jokes, most of which are actually funny. Oh, and if you're wondering about the jester's throne, located across from Praythos' throne; no, there's nothing special you can gain from sitting on it.

The statue near the entrance tells you how you can find out the password to the dungeon. If you can't solve the puzzle, you can look up the answer in the Puzzle Spoilers section.

The chests near King Zealot are the magical chests Corak mentioned in his notes; you can't open them if you don't know the countersign to release the spell. You can find it in the Whiteshield Dungeon. These chests will solve your money troubles for a long time... one contains 5 million Gold and the other 10000 Gems! BUT... opening either of the chests releases two powerful Black Knights. These guys are just plain bad news. They are fast, powerful, have lots of attacks... and a grudge against Paladins. Try to have an Implosion spell ready against these guys.

If you try to open any of the other chests, the castle's doors will be locked, and the hallways will be filled with Castle Guards. The guards aren't too hard to beat, though, and you can just unlock the doors again. The five "normal" chests contain a total of 53000 Gold and 22 random items.

Then there are the three secret areas of the castle, only accessible if you have the Teleport spell. As you can see on the map, there are areas in the north, south and west of the castle, which you can only reach by Teleporting in. In the north area, you will have to face Castle Guards and Paladins to get to two chests containing 10000 Gold and 5 random items each. In the south area are even more Castle Guards and Paladins, and two more chests containing 20000 Gold and 5 random items each. Finally, the small secret area in the west is the most dangerous, since the two chests there are guarded by two Black Knights. Those two chests each hold an Artifact of Evil and 100000 Gold.
