Walkthrough



There are only a few things that you must do to beat the game. The most direct way through the game (which certainly isn't the most fun) is the following:
  1. Take an apprenticeship in fairy magic and gain experience until you reach level 16 (at least).
  2. Transport to the fairy realm (using fairy magic) and grab Torres from the third level of the nearby dungeon.
  3. Kill Darces in the third level of Grades Castle.

It's a lot more fun, however, to complete the quests and find the elemental swords. Here is a more enjoyable way through the game:


The game begins in Granville. The first thing you should do is talk to the old man, who gives you the compass . Head north out of town and enter the Castle. Talk to the King in the center of the castle to receive a (crappy) blue sword and 100 gold. I recommend selling the blue sword in Granville and buying a wooden mace, a low helm, and leather gloves. (Alternatively, you can save your gold and find these items outside in the treasure chests.) There are five wizards in Granville, each specializing in one of the five different schools of magic: earth, water, fire, wind, and fairy. You can take an apprenticeship in one of these schools by talking with the appropriate wizard. To become an apprentice in the other schools of magic you will have to obtain the elemental swords. Fairy magic and water magic are the two best schools with which to begin the game. Fairy magic will provide you with the extremely useful map spell and water magic will greatly improve your defense.

You need to raise several levels and upgrade your equipment before heading into any dungeons. Kill snakes, scorpions and flies until you are at least level 6 and have replaced the beginning equipment. Stay close to town until you've gained the first few levels. Now is a good time to make sure you understand the basics.
Sword of Earth : After talking with the lady in Derius, go to the water spirit Arianna just north of Derius. Arianna will give you the Sword of Earth. The sword lacks magical energy and must be revitalized in the Sanctuary of Selle. Stand by the statue on the third floor of the sanctuary and wait until the sword glows. Take the sword to any water wizard (not just the one in Bell, as the townsfolk would have you believe) to obtain the water runes.

The Sanctuary of Selle is a good place to gain experience points. You will probably want to reach level 10 before continuing to the next task.
Ring Of Flight : Obtain a ring of flight on the third floor of the Gales Maze (which the townsfolk refer to as the Dungeon of Doom). Alternatively, if you have the water runes, you can find a ring of flight by parting the water east of Sull.

Ring Of Sight : Use the ring of flight to travel to Temrass Island. Grab the ring of sight from the first level of the island cave. The ring of sight opens Versus Temple (also on the island). Temrass Cave and Versus Temple are both good places to gain experience points.

Sword of Fairy : The Sword of Fairy rests on the third floor of Versus Temple. Take the sword to any fairy wizard to obtain the fairy runes.

Sword of Fire : Use fairy magic to break open the rock in the woods north of Granville. In particular, the spell consisting of a single horizontal bar will work. The sword will regain its magical energy after you hold it by the fire spout to the east. Take the sword to any fire wizard to obtain the fire runes.

Flower of Zandor : In order to communicate with the (dead) Legendary Warrior, you will need to obtain the flower of Zandor and the book of runes. The flower of Zandor lies on the third floor of the Darius Maze. This dungeon is tough and I suggest reaching level 13 before attempting it.

Book of Runes : Use the earth spell to part the waters south of Bell and enter the Legendary Temple. The Book of Runes is on the first floor, though you will have to go up and down floors to reach it. The Legendary Temple also contains the white scimitar and the silver armor. The red dragons here are very powerful and you will probably have to use attack spells to damage them. Once in possession of the flower of Zandor and the book of runes, you can speak with the Legendary Warrior at the graveyard. The warrior's spirit tells you to seek the legendary armor in the Dragon King's lair.

Sword of Water : The Dragon King has the sword of water, though you must impress him if you don't want him to breath fire on you. Impress him by finding and equipping the legendary armor in the north section of the lair. Once you've equipped the armor, talk to the Dragon King (who is also in the north section of the lair) to receive the sword of water. While you are in the lair, be sure to grab the axe.

Book of Seven Witches : In order to communicate with the fairies on the south cape, you must get the Book of Seven Witches from the third floor of Keme Cave. The cave also contains two very nice items: the grey shield and the flail. With the Book of Seven Witches you can talk to the fairies at the south cape, who tell you to go to the North Tower.

Sword of Wind : The sword of wind is on the third level of the North Tower. Be sure to get the silver helm and the silver sword on your way through the tower. The enemies here are worth a lot of experience points. Reach level 16 before continuing on.

Sword of Tores : The first thing you need to do is stock up on red potions, food, and water. The quest ahead is challenging! Transport to the fairy realm using fairy magic. The island is inhabited by the hardest monster in the game: the yellow dragon. Run from any dragons you can and use powerful attack spells on those that you must fight. Tores rests on the third level of the nearby dungeon. Once you have the sword, you must worry about how to leave the fairy realm. Unfortunately the wind spell which teleports you to Granville does not work here. If you can manage to run to the water before the dragons tear you apart, part the water with the earth spell. As soon as you step between the parted water you will fall down to Grades Island, right by the castle.

Now for the final test, in Grades Castle. Using an attack spell, kill Darces on the bottom level.
