The Tree in the Desert Leave Shapier, mount the Saurus, and head into the desert. Head three screens east and six screens south to reach your next stop: the Oasis. Dismount and fill your waterskins. Also residing here is the Whirling Dervish. He'll tell you about a puzzle. Ask about the puzzle, and he'll give you a nice bunch of W prases: who, what, where, when, and why. Mount your Saurus, and head two screens north and then turn west until you reach a caged beast. Forget about him for the moment, and go back to the Dervish. Ask about the beast, then take the beard. Mount the Saurus, then head back to Shapier. Give the Whirl to Keapon for a reward. Now head to the Apothecary. Ask about the Dispel Potion, and he'll explain that he can make one, but he's missing two ingredients: a Griffin Feather and a Fruit of Compassion. Head back to the desert and mount the Saurus. Once you enter the desert, go right until you reach the Griffin nest, where a griffin is taking a nap. Fighters have to find a rock in the area, move up to it, and move the rock, then get the feather. Wizards can cast levitate, float to the top, then get the feather. Thieves need to walk up to the nest, then use the magic rope. Climb to the top, and get the feather. Your fun in the desert isn't over yet, though. Continue to the right until you reach a rather dead-looking tree. This is Julanar, the tree-woman. Dismount, then walk up to her. Give water to the tree, and you'll water it. Now tell about yourself. The tree will turn slightly, revealing a human face. Now give the dirt, and you'll plant the Earth Elemental's essence around Julanar. Now tell about the Earth Elemental, and the tree will grow leaves. And finally, hug the tree (yes, you're a tree hugger!), and say Julanar. The Fruit of Compassion will form. Take the fruit. Head back to the Apothecary. Give the feather, then give the fruit. He'll give you three Dispel Potions. However, there's one more important part: you need a hair from the victim in order for the potion to work. Head back to the beast using the directions in the first paragraph. Give food to the beast, then walk behind it to it's tail and take hair while it's distracted. Now give water to the beast, then give dispel potion to it while it's drinking the water. The beast will change back to a human named Al Scurva, an apprentice of Ad Avis, the royal vizir of Rasier. He'll tell you about his former master, then teleport away. Oh, and he'll also thank you for the food and water. Back here is a quake. Up here is a drought. |
