Walkthrough (part 3)
The maze is actually fairly straightforward. To get all the booty: take the south pass first, then head back to the northern one. Bypass the first portal to the north, going around it to reach a second one for treasure and a save point. Go back to the portal you bypassed. At the next split you come to, the first north-leading passage goes to the Temple of the Sky, and the others will net you one LifeCube each. Joy.
Do the usual in the Temple of the Sky - open the chests, and meet the Mashin, Windam. When fighting Caldina just use your strongest spells. Caldina will offer to join you for 30,000 gold. She's rather worthless in battle, but it's your choice. Afterwards, stop in the town at the base of the Mountain of No Return and talk to Ascot in the northeastern house to get the Orb of Maxima (Maxima Orb item). Now head west across the bridge, then north from Castle Emeraude and across another bridge to arrive at the Volcano.
Ascend the Volcano, collecting treasure and using the recovery spring, then go inside. Take the left path. At the back of the first part of the cave, press the blue switches to make the lava flows disappear and gain access to more rooms. Keep going until you reach the Shrine of Fire. In the shrine, the usual happens. Collect the chests, meet the Mashin (Rayearth), then go back outside. In the first battle against Lafarga, let him kill you. When you fight him with Hikaru, just keep attacking until he goes down. He joins, Caldina leaves, and you're done with the Volcano.
Return to the third town (east of Castle Emeraude). Head to the item store to find Caldina dancing (just a side note). Spend ALL your money at the shop, buying as much as you can, because you won't be coming back. Exit the town, and head north to the lake (have you noticed that your battle sprites are different now? Full Magic Knights!).
Follow the shore around to the west and go stand on the dock. You'll ride across to the island in the center of the lake. Go down the hole in the center of the island. The Dark Cave is straightforward, with a few branches leading off to items. When you reach the center, you find the point of no return: a portal leading to Zagato's Castle. Go ahead and take it.
Welcome to the Mirror Maze! One thing you need to know right away: which type of mirror you can walk through. The mirrors you can walk through are the ones with more blue in the upper left. When you see three small dots in a wall (the top edge), it means that that's where a passage from a mirror comes out, just in case you want to backtrack. No surprises on the first floor - just make your way through until you encounter a save point (use it, of course), then head up the stairs. |
