Walkthrough (part 2)
Go back to the town you landed near a while ago, if you want. The shop is now open, and you can buy a few items. You don't need to, and you'll be coming to another town in a moment anyway. Head south from Presea's until you reach a red crystal blocking a bridge. Touch it, and due to your Escudo weapons, it'll disappear. Proceed over the bridge and head south to another town. You can shop here if you didn't stop by the other town.
Buy a couple of each item, but don't break the bank, as you'll want to keep around 30,000 in your pocket at all times (it comes into play later in the game, but it's good to start saving the money up now). You won't have 30,000 at this time, but it's best not to spend TOO much of what you do have. Exit the town. You can't climb the mountain to the north yet, but if you want, you can make a long trek over a bridge to the west and head southwest to end up at a third town, which has more advanced items in its shop. Castle Emeraude, where you can pick up a couple items for free, if nothing else, is farther yet to the southwest.
Make sure to do all your purchasing now, because the next area you visit will not allow you to leave once you've entered. You most likely won't need the items, but from now on it's best to keep a supply of StarCores on hand, just in case you tire of the endless random battles and want to carve your way through a dungeon with nothing but spells. To advance the story of the game walk around the beaches to the south of the town near the mountain (Town 2) until you "enter" a scene. Mokona's boat deposits you underwater.
When you enter the second area of the cave, walk all the way to the left, use the save point, then take the second entrance from the left. The others are either dead ends or wastes of time (no treasure down any of them). Once inside the shrine, get the items on both your right and left before heading through the doorway at the back. You find Celes, one of the Mashin you're searching for.
Ascot, one of Zagato's henchman, attacks. When fighting the Faizer with Umi, start by using SeaGuard, then keep hitting it with SeaBlade. When the battle's over, Umi gives Ascot a talking to, and he comes to his senses and joins the party.
Back on land, walk north to the town (you've been here before) to find it under attack. Use your strongest spells to hit all the monsters at once for a quick battle. Afterwards, talk to the Elder in the northwestern-most house to get the Gate Key, then exit the town and head for the mountain. Head up the mountain, taking the left path first to collect items, then go up the right path, again collecting items, use the recovery spring in the uppermost cave, then step onto the summit to be whisked away to the Maze of Wind.
