Walkthrough: Bakumatsu Chapter

The Violent Way

So you wish to follow the way of the heartless bastard, grasshopper? Aiming to kill all 100 people in the castle, are you? Well, it's not a simple matter of storming in and killing everyone you see. ...okay, that's a large part of the matter, but some enemies are hidden, or only show up at certain times. Therefore, to be sure you get them all, follow this battle plan to the letter.

When you're dropped just outside inside the castle, first go down and walk merrily past the Guards. They'll notice you and attack. These are your basic grunts, not much of a threat. Definitely not anymore once your reach level 3. But you're only level 2 now, so don't get too careless. When you defeat them, you'll remind yourself you have now killed 2 people. The next two are right up there barring your entrance to the building ahead. Kill these Guards like you did the last two.

Entering the building, which I will refer to as "Building 1" from now on, you'll see a large gathering of Samurai, from whom you'll learn the password: The challenge phrase "Mountain" should be answered with "River". Remember that for the time being. Also pay attention to the bell, which rings periodically. When it does, the password will switch from River to Origin. When it rings again, it switches back to River, and so forth.

For now, go into the room on the far right and kill the Guard there. You'll reach level 3. Open the chest in the corner to find a ChainMail, and equip it. Exit the room and take the door straight ahead from the entrance. You saw a Samurai go in there before, so go kill him now. Samurai are a bit tougher than the guards you fought so far, but not all that much. You should be able to handle him with little trouble. That makes 6 people killed.

Exit the Samurai's room and head through the hallway on the left. Passing through a couple of doors, you will find a Ronin walking around there. This is where it gets a little annoying. Even though Ronin can take about the same punishment a Samurai can, their FeintCut attack does considerable damage. If you quickly run up to the guy and keep slashing him with Shinobikiri, you should be able to take him down before he kills you, barely. You'd do well to save before trying though, just in case.

After taking out the Ronin, take the door on the bottom. There will be a Guard and a Geisha walking around there. Kill the Guard, but let the Geisha live for now. Yes, I know you're planning to kill everyone, but there's a reason for this. Patience, young grasshopper, you will get to kill all the defenseless young women later. :P

Exit the room and proceed through the door up ahead. You'll end up in the castle courtyard. To be on the safe side, hide from the Ronin walking around there using your Clock of Invisibility (Y button), and run (B button) past them when you get the chance. You'll find the entrance to the next building blocked by two Guards, who'll ask you for the password. You know the correct password, but should give them the wrong one in order to be able to kill them. So just say "Potato", and kill the two Guards in the battle that ensues.

After killing the Guards, don't go inside just yet. Walk to the left side of the building, and check near the walls with the A button. There's a Shopkeeper hiding there. When you get the option, choose to kill him. He's pretty much defenseless, so that shouldn't be too hard. You'll reach level 4 at this point. You'll gain the Hiton skill, a flame attack with which you'll be able to kill the Ronin safely and easily from a distance, so go back and kill the two that are walking around outside, being careful not to walk into a square right next to them, just to be safe. After this, your kill count should now be at 13.

Enter the building the Guards were blocking before, which I'll call "Building 2", and kill the Ronin walking around in the hallway. Walk through the door straight ahead and kill the Ronin and the Samurai inside. Exit the room and walk all the way to the left. Continue north through the hallway and find the Ronin blocking the door. He'll ask you for the password. Say "Potato", then kill him. There's no need to enter the room he was guarding right now. Instead, walk back all to the right (without going down) and proceed through the north door.

When you end up in another hallway with three doors leading south and one leading north, enter the right-most south one. Grab the two chests for two Kasuteiras (it's a kind of cake, which serves as a healing item), then kill the Shopkeeper and the Samurai. Exit the room and proceed north. You'll end up outside again. Kill the Ronin walking around there, and the two Guards up ahead. You can't go on to "Building 3" for now, so go back inside and retrace your steps to the entrance of Building 2. From there, take the right-most door this time. You'll see a Ninja pass through a secret door hidden behind the wall. Kill the Shopkeeper in the room, and you'll be level 5, with your kill count at 23.

Go through the secret passage the Ninja went through, and save the game before talking to him. He'll ask you for the password. However, he won't accept "Potato" or "Below", so you have to give him the wrong one of the two possible passwords. If you've been paying attention to the bell like I told you to, you should know which that is. After answering wrong, the Ninja will attack. If you just go in close and use your Shinobikiri attack, he shouldn't be hard to beat. Climb the rope ladder after you defeat him. You won't need to pay attention to the bell anymore now.

In the attic, make your way over to the other rope ladder (pick up a Kasuteira on the way). Take a peek through the hole in the floor to the left of the ladder. This will make an Elder and a Geisha appear in the room below, which you'll be killing later. ...I don't even want to know what they're doing. :P Go down the rope ladder and immediately go back up to grab the chest on the other end. Equip the MerfolkSocks you find, then go back down the rope ladder. Go down, and you'll see a man sitting there. Talk to him, and he'll summon two Ninja to attack you. Kill them (don't get careless, they can be dangerous in pairs), and the guy who summoned him. He's an Elder, no threat whatsoever. Afterwards, go back up the rope ladder.

Back in the attack, go for the exit on the upper left-hand side. A Ninja will come out and spot you. Let him come to you and kill him before exiting. Prepare for the classic "walk and jump over rooftops" bit you see in all the Ninja movies. Go south, and there'll see a building there (let's call it the Storehouse). Even though it's not visible, there's an entrance at the side, so walk into the left side of the building until you find the entrance. Save before proceeding!

Inside, when you try to grab the chests, no less than five Ninjas will pop out and attack! However, only one of them is real, the one way in the back (the upper left). Kill him, and the others will vanish. I find that the easiest way to do that is kill the GoNinja directly above you, then walk straight to the guy in the back. Using just your regular Shinobikiri attack, you should be able to take him out before they take you out. You'll attain level 6, and obtain the Shuriken skill, which can be useful to take out enemies from a distance. Since four of the Ninjas were fake, this only counts as one kill, so your kill count is now 29. Don't forget to grab the chests before exiting. They contain a Koban (coin), which is useless to you if you're going for the "kill everyone" strategy, and a GenjiGlove, which gives you more defense at the cost of speed. Which I think is an okay sacrifice.

Proceed over the rooftops, until you enter the building directly over the entrance to the castle. Do not go directly through the center of the room, or you'll fall through a pit and end up at the castle's entrance again. Exit the room at the other end, and keep going over the rooftops, automatically jumping to the next when you reach the edge of the one you're on. In the end, you'll end up on the top floor of one of the buildings you couldn't enter before. There's some chests in there. One's empty, one holds a Kasuteira, and the last contains the WarehouseKey. Don't go on, but make your way back to the building directly over the entrance of the castle, and do go through the center this time, letting yourself fall through the pit.

Pass through Building 1, but don't enter Building 2 just yet. The Storehouse in the lower-left corner of the castle has another hidden entrance at the north side. Find it, and use the WarehouseKey to unlock it. Save the game before going for the chest you find there. When you try to open the chest, a Ninja will drop down from the ceiling and attack. Kill him, and two more will drop down. Kill them too, and four more Ninjas will come at you. Four at the same time could be deadly, so watch yourself. I find it works well to use Hiton over and over, making sure to hit all four at once every time if at all possible. After beating them, grab the BasementKey from the chest and exit.

Pass through Building 2 now, and when you get outside again, enter the little building on the right using the WarehouseKey. Inside, kill the two Hitodama (disembodied souls) floating around, which shouldn't be too hard, since they don't do much of anything, really. Next, open all the pots and chests in the room. You'll find 2 SteamedRice, a Koban, a SakabaSword, an IzanagiScrol, a Topknot and a GenjiSocks. Equip the latter two, assuming that you didn't already get a Topknot from a defeated enemy earlier.

Now it's time for a challenge. At least, it's challenging if you don't know how to handle the fight. It's easy if you follow my directions though. Approach the girl in the corner, Okyou. She's unfortunately passed away, and doesn't seem too happy about that fact. When the battle starts, take one step to the right, as staying right next to her is deadly. Now, use Shinobikiri to destroy the candle first. If you don't, then using Hiton will cause them to counter-attack. Somehow. Anyway, after the candle is gone, take one step up and keep using Hiton until Okyou is defeated. She should go down well before you do, after which you'll reach level 7, and gain the Mugenchou skill. The undead don't count as kills, by the way.

After that, head back to Building 2 and make your way up to the rooftops again. After passing through the building over the entrance to the castle (watching out for that hidden pit in the center again), keep going until you see a tree directly below you. Press the A button when facing it, and you'll climb down. Next, on the little plateau you end up on, stand in front of the statue there, and press A again. You'll push it aside, revealing a secret passage. Follow that passage, and you'll end up in the moat.

There's a total of three Ninjas also swimming around in the moat. Kill them all (kill count: 39) and proceed through the moat. Watch out for an underwater shadow here. If you touch it, you'll end up in a battle with a huge fish, Iwama. This is a battle you can't win at this point, don't even try. You can come back for it later if you want, but no matter which level you are, he'll be tougher than even the final boss of this scenario. Plus, all you get for beating it is an accessory which boosts your Magic rating a little, which in my opinion doesn't make it worth the extra level-building you'd have to do. [However, using it as an item unleashes a very nice technique!] And it doesn't count as a kill, either.

Enter the door at the other end of the moat and follow the path to end up in the dungeon. Kill the Samurai who comes after you, then go upstairs. Avoid the Samurai on this floor of the dungeon, trying to kill him now would be an unnecessary risk. Instead, unlock the door of the top-right cell with the BasementKey and talk to the prisoner inside. He's a Ronin in disguise, and will attack you. After you defeat him, go back downstairs and use the BasementKey to unlock the left-most cell there, containing a guy resembling the one you just freed. Walk up to him, and you'll fall into a trap.

You'll end up in a room full of Hitodama. If you try to leave, Amakusa Shiro will appear and block your way. You can try to kill him, but even if you succeed, he'll absorb the Hitodama in the room if you do and come back to life. What you need to do is destroy all the Hitodama before attacking Shiro. There's eight of them in all, and you need to destroy them and Shiro very quickly, or they'll all reappear. But that can be a good thing, too. Since most enemies don't reappear after you beat them, this is a very good opportunity to do a little level-building. It's not absolutely necessary, but to be on the safe side, I recommend you keep on killing Hitodama until you reach at least level 9. [They can't hurt you, so it's a win-win situation!] Hiton gets rid of a Hitodama in one shot, so it shouldn't take you too long. After that point, you'll gain less experience from them. You can still keep going if you want, and if you want to go for the Murasama later on, it's even essential. But for the purpose of this walkthrough, I'll assume you leveled up to 9.

Now that you've levelled enough, defeat the remaining Hitodama quickly by running up to them using the B button, or you probably won't be fast enough to kill them before they all regenerate. After that, quickly run to the exit, and face Shiro. You should notice he's a bit less confident this time around, but he'll still attack if you persist in fighting. If you stay close and keep using your Shinobikiri attack, you should be able to defeat him without even using a healing item. You'll overpower him easily at this level, even if he does keep draining your life and knocking you back. You'll get a MariaVeil for defeating him.

After you beat Shiro, the prisoner will fall down from above. Looks like he fell asleep from watching you do all that boring leveling. :) It doesn't matter what you answer him; he'll join your party at level 9. Now, equip the MariaVeil on yourself, and equip your old Tekkou, Chainmail and MerfolkSocks (and if you have an extra Topknot, that too) on the Prisoner, which is the only name you'll know him as until you finish the scenario. Even though he tells you to "lead him out of here", he won't actually let you leave until you go "have a talk with the Lord of the castle". But at least you can leave this room now.

When you get upstairs, unlock the last cell here with the BasementKey and talk to the guy inside. It's Mystical Ninja Goemon! ...okay, so he's not the Goemon, just a Goemon. When you choose to kill him, he'll say he doesn't want to fight you. But if you insist, he will. He can be tough to beat, but if you just run up to him with both party members and use Shinobikiri and the Prisoner's Okushinishi, you should be able to bring him down, as long as he keeps retaliating with his RopeToss attack. Don't be afraid to use a few healing items should a party member be knocked out, but you should be able to take him out before that happens. [Try not to get exactly diagonal to him, or he can use a 999-damage attack!] This brings the kill count to 42. (Shiro didn't count, since he was a demon, not a human.)

Go upstairs and challenge the Samurai walking around there. This is no ordinary Samurai, no... this is an Elite Samurai, who are a lot tougher than their palette-swapped brethren. They have the FeintCut attack, and can put more attack power behind it than Ronin can, which makes them very dangerous in close combat. That is... they would be dangerous if you didn't have the Prisoner with you. His Okushinishi not only does a lot more damage than you can do yourself, it may also paralyse the opponent. But no matter if that happens or not, you should be able to win two-on-one battles with Elite Samurai quite easily. For beating this one, you'll get another BasementKey, which you really don't need, but eh.

Unlock the other cells in the prison with one of your BasementKeys. One's empty, there's a Shopkeeper in another (ignore his pleas for food and just kill him), and in the last are two weirdos named Very and Nice. Kill them, too. (They can drop Uroko, which ups your IQ slightly.) Make your way to the left side and go upstairs, proceeding until you reach a room with a man in it. He has a treasure chest beside him, containing a better weapon for you, a Kotetsu. After equipping it, talk to the man, and he'll sic two Ninja's on you. Kill all of them. (kill count: 49)

Exit this room through the lower exit. In the next hallway, there's a semi-hidden door leading south in the lower-right corner. Go through it, and get the IzanagiScrol from the chest. You'll notice you won't be able to get to the Geisha. If you go out this room and go back in, the chest will be closed again. Try to open it and... Girl-in-a-box! :) She'll need to die too though, but not just yet. For now, remember where she is, since I'll refer to her again later. Exit the room and go back into the hallway, taking the other exit that leads south.

You'll now be at the entrance of Building 3. The hallway is crawling with Samurai, and there's one Elite among them, too. Kill all four of them. Don't exit the building, because you won't be able to re-enter if you do; you'd have to go all the way around again. Proceed though the door on the far right. You'll end up in a hallway with three doors. A Ronin is guarding one. As usual, tell him the password is Potato, then kill him. Enter the door he was guarding, where you can get open the chests to find another useless Koban and a Torimochi. I wonder what the heck that's supposed to be though, since I thought Torimochi meant "entertainment". Ah well.

After looting the room, exit, and take the right-most of the three doors leading north. When you enter this room, something that kinda looks like an old lady quick exits. Don't step on the cushion she was sitting on, or you'll have to deal with a trap. It's not too dangerous, just a waste of time. Proceed to the room on the left, then go upstairs. On the second floor, take the exit leading south, then immediately head through the left exit, and take the stairs going down there. You'll end up in a room where you may remember having seen a Ninja walk around before, when you were in the room with the chests that the Ronin was guarding. He's gone now, though. But just stand around here for a full minute(!) and you'll see his hands appear on the back wall. Approach the wall and talk to it, and you can kill the Ninja, which will be kill #55.

Go back upstairs, take the south exit, follow the path, and keep on going south. There will be an Elite Samurai walking around. As usual, kill 'm. Proceed right, and take the next door you come across. There's a Geisha in there, who's actually a demon. This is an optional battle, you don't have to beat her if you don't want to. If you want to give it a shot, it's best to use the Prisoner's Okushinishi on her to keep her paralyzed, because her Pressure attack can do considerable damage. [Or try using Jumonjikiri continously.]

Whether or not you decide to take her on, leave the room. You can take the next door if you want, but you'll find you won't be able to take the three treasure chests there. So keep going until you run into an Elite Samurai barring the way. Get the password wrong again (bet you never used the word "potato" in an RPG this much before :) and kill him. Proceed through many doors (talk about redundancy) and kill another Elite Samurai at the end. Take the stairs to the third floor.

There's only one way to go for now, so you can't go wrong. Beat a Ronin on the way, remember to save the game just in case, and keep on going until a Geisha spots you. She'll summon a group of Elite Samurai to deal with you. However, before they can attack, they'll be interrupted by Han, a Ronin who's turned into a demon. Quickly run around and kill all four of the Elites before Han does, or you won't get the credit for it. Now take on Han himself. He has a couple of annoying attacks which can disable a lot of your skills and/or your ability to move, but your standard attacks should be enough to take him out. He still counts as a human kill, so your kill count should now be at 64. [Note that if you leave the room now, Han will disappear and you won't be able to kill him! Also note that you SHOULD NOT stand immediately diagonal of him, or he'll kill you with a 999-damage technique.]

Enter the room Han came out of, and talk to the WittyPriest there. He'll summon a Tiger and sends it after you. Kill the Tiger first with standard attacks, but stay the heck away from the Priest. He's got some nasty attacks if you let him get close. Use your ranged attacks (Shuriken and Ookamikaba) instead. After you beat him, exit the room and go into the next. There's an Elder there, who informs you you've killed 65 people (how the heck does he know that?), and asks if you're going to kill him too. Stupid question, of course you are, you're a ruthless bastard, after all.

Exit the room the way you came and go into the next. There's chests containing a TokenOfAcala and a WindGodScrol in there. Get those, leave the room, and proceed up the stairs to the fourth floor. Take the left door here, and in the next hallway, take the door in the lower-left. Keeping talking to the sleeping Kyoshiro here until he attacks you. He's powerful, but if you just assault him with your regular melee attacks, he should go down pretty quickly. Make your way back to the room where you ended up when you took the stairs to this floor, and take the right door now. You'll encounter an Elite Samurai guarding a door, you know the drill: Potato, kill.

Go down the stairs in the room he was guarding, and kill the Ninja waiting fo you at the bottom. Proceed through the door, and you'll see a woman being accosted by four Ninjas. Save her by killing them all. The "Princess" will ask you to stay with her. Accept her offer, and the Prisoner will remind you Ode doesn't have any daughters. The woman will show her true form, the demon Yodo-Kun. By now your party members should be at level 10, which means you'll have the Kamaitachi skill. Now would be a good time to use it. Just stand where you are and keep using it, while the Prisoner slashes away with his standard melee attack (Okushinishi). No matter what happens, just keep on doing this. She should be defeated before she can even bring one of your party members down. Since she was a demon, she doesn't count as a kill, thus your kill count will still be at 73.

Continue on, and you'll find another flight of stairs, leading back to the fourth floor. You'll find the stairway will be blocked if you try to proceed directly to the fifth floor, so take the door leading south instead. Keep going south, and you'll get to a rope ladder. However, it will be raised up if you try to grab it. Frustrating, isn't it? Retrace your steps, and you'll hear a voice coming from behind the secret panel you passed through earlier. You'll be invited to sit down. Don't do it, just keep talking to the guy behind the panel, even when he claims to have turned off the trap. When he asks if you don't trust him, answer "Not at all", and he'll come out to try and force you to sit down the hard way.

Quickly run around the little Electrodes and attack GennaiTrap himself. You won't have to worry about the Electrodes at all anymore then, since they can't hit you as long as you stay to the left, top, or top-left of them. Just pass when it's the Prisoner's turn and let him get blown away while you go stand right next to GennaiTrap and attack him with Kamaitachi repeatedly. You should beat him in no time at all. He doesn't count as a kill, I suppose because he's more machine than man. After this battle, all the traps in the mansion will be deactivated, so now it's time to go back and pick up some items that were hard to reach before because of the traps.

Go down, then up the rope ladder. Proceed to the left and open the chest for the GenjiArmor. Equip it, and give the MariaVeil to the Prisoner. Now go up and find the other rope ladder here. Take this one, and go down the stairs in the small hallway you end up in. You'll see another rope ladder there. Use it to go up, and grab the chest in the lower-left corner. It contains the GenjiHelm. Equip it, and pass your Topknot on to the Prisoner, if he didn't already have one. You'll also find a GrappleHook here, though you don't have much use for it.

Go down the bottom-right rope ladder, go down the stairs in the next hallways, and up the rope ladder there. This place used to have annoying traps that opened and closed, but not anymore. You can now easily collect the treasure chests here, which contain a Tekkou(which you don't really need), a TokenOfAcala, and a FuujinDart. Of course you should still be careful you don't fall into any of the pits that are still open.

Except for one. The pit directly north of the chest containing the Tekkou (in the bottom-left corner). Jump down that one, and you'll reach a small secret room with a treasure chest. Don't go straight down, first move left or right, and approach the chest from the side. You'll find a SurprisedGuy in here. I don't know what it's supposed to be, but it's the best leg armor in the scenario, so equip it on yourself and give the GenjiSocks to the Prisoner. To get out of here, go directly north from the treasure chest, and you'll fall down another hole into the dungeon. If you didn't open the door yet, use the BasementKey to free yourself.

Retrace your steps back to the stairway that was blocked when you tried to go up before (north of the room with GennaiTrap). You'll now be able to use it to go to the fifth floor. Once there, you'll find the only door blocked by three Monks. Their attacks can do a lot of damage, especially when you stand close to them. But you shouldn't have much trouble when you take them out from a distance, with Kamaitachi and Ookamikaba. Now enter the door they were guarding, and...

There he is, Lord Ode himself! ...and his 8 Samurai guards. These are actually Akira's; they're not very tough, so no matter if you have to beat them all at once, it shouldn't be a challenge at all. After that massacre, your kill count will be 84. Ode will promptly flee, but not before releasing the undead spirit of the legendary swordman Miyamoto Musashi to take care of you. He's not as hard to beat as you might think, though. Just stand back and use Kamaitachi from a distance while having the Prisoner take him on in hand-to-hand, using Okushinishi. You can let the Prisoner get knocked out; by that time Musashi shouldn't have much HP left.

After beating the legendary swordman, open up the secret passage Ode fled through using the A button and continue on, up the stairs, to the sixth and final floor. When you're about to enter the door to the north, a Geisha will approach you, who thanks you for "rescuing her". I personally think this is a mistranslation. Since she doesn't show up if you've killed any female humans up to this point, I believe she's actually thanking you for sparing the women. Anyway, she says she has a gift for you. When she asks if you'll accept, choose to kill her instead. It appears she's an Assassin instead. Your Kamaitachi attack will reach her past the barriers, so use that to kill her easily.

So, that's why you've been sparing the women up until now. Because you wouldn't be able to kill this assassin otherwise. Now it's time to backtrack and kill the ones you let live earlier. First, go back all the way to the second floor, to the room with the three treasure chests you weren't able to take before. Now you can. You'll find two FuujinDarts and the GateKey. Exit that room and backtrack further, going all the way left, then north through the large amount of doors. Don't go down the stairs yet, but first pay a visit to the small room on the right side, which you skipped before. There's an Assassin here. Kill her, and take all the items in the room: A SakabaSword, Steamed Rice, Koban, and a Kanesada on the wall. Why the heck you would need another Kanesada is beyond me, but there's one here nonetheless.

Exit the room and go downstairs, proceeding until you reach a small hallway with three doors leading north. You skipped the middle one before, so go through it now. Kill the Elder, Assassin, and Geisha in this room, then exit and proceed south. When you reach the entrance hall of the mansion, where there were four Samurai walking around until you came along, there's another door leading north that you passed up before. Enter it now. Talk to the woman in the bed, and she'll... er... assault you. Yes, I think that's the right word for it. ^_^;; Defeat Okame with a double dose of Kamaitachi. She'll claim that "you can't resist her love" when you defeat her.

When you exit the room, you'll see that... woman running around outside again, alive and well! Kill her again, and she'll say the same thing as before. Go back into her room, then come back out, and there she'll be again! You'll need to defeat her 16(!) times before she'll finally stay dead. And yes, she does count as a human kill, making your kill count 90. Also, from all the experience you've gathered from killing her over and over, you should be at level 11 now. You'll also likely have a bunch of Maid's Obi. Equip as many as you can on yourself, even though they don't do much.

Now, before going outside, go all the way left and through the door there, then take the semi-hidden other exit south, back into the room where you saw the girl-in-a-box before. Talk to the girl-in-a-box again, then press and hold Y to use your cloak of invisibility. Stand around and wait for about half a minute, and the girl will poke her head out of the chest. Drop the cloak immediately and take the opportunity to kill her. Afterwards, go back to the entrance hall, exit Building 3, and enter Building 2 from the top.

When you enter Building 2, take the middle door south. There'll be a Geisha to kill in there. Go south again, and... whoa! No less than five easily-killable Geishas! Actually, one of them turns out to be an Assassin, but easily-killable nonethless. That's 97, just 3 more kills to go! And two of those are close by. Exit the room to the north, going back to the hallway with three doors leading south. Take the left one this time. When the road splits, go left, and take the left-most door there. A Ronin used to be guarding that door, if you recall. Inside, there will be a weird Elder who likes to spin around Geishas. ...or something. o_O Let's not think too much about that. Just kill the Elder, then the Geisha, and don't worry about it anymore. [If you kill the Geisha first then talk to the Elder from the front, he'll spin you too! O_o]

Your final kill is back in Building 1. Remember the room where there were both a Guard and Geisha walking around? If not, it's the one directly opposite from the back door, which you'll enter the building from. You never did kill that Geisha yet, so go do that now. Congratulations, that was kill #100! Now all that's left is the final boss, unless you want to try to take on that huge fish in the moat, or go for the Murasama (the Optimal Walkthrough covers them). You don't have to go all the way around this time, as you can open the front door of Building 3 with the GateKey. Exactly how a key can open a door which is "barred from the inside" is beyond me, but eh, whatever works.

Make your way back to the sixth floor of Building 3, and enter the final room. Ode Iou will be there waiting for you. This is a pretty pathetic fight, no problem at all. Ode will escape to the rooftop after you beat him, and invites you to join him. Accept his invitation by exiting the room and taking the south door, which leads to the balcony. You'll automatically climb up to the rooftop, which is where you'll find Ode. He'll assume the form of a demon, and the final battle begins.

I find that the easiest way to beat Gamahebi is as follows. Don't move, but immediately start preparing a Yukigarashi spell. Have the Prisoner stand back behind you and use attack items like WindGodScrol and TokenOfAcala. After the Yukigarashi hits, switch to using Kamaitachi over and over again, and have the Prisoner skip his turn whenever it comes around. When you lose about half your HP, have the Prisoner use a Steamed Rice (use Kasuteira instead if you're in critical condition) to heal both characters. In the end, the fight shouldn't be all that hard.

[My observations: Kamaitachi seems to be even more powerful than Yukigarashi for me. ^^; I have Oboro continually use that, have Prisoner stand next to him and use either SteamedRices or IkakuJageki. Either way, as Macc says, it's not a hard fight. 8-)]

Congratulations, you've completed the scenario the violent way! And now, for killing all 100 people, you will receive... absolutely nothing! Yep, that's right... you only did all that for bragging rights. Whatta gyp, huh?
