Each character also has an ultimate weapon. Ultimate weapons have eight connected Materia holders, don't gain AP, power up under certain conditions (which are different for each character), has a higher Attack Power and Hit Rate than other weapons, doesn't decrease if you're using the Metamorphosis Materia like other weapons do, and the power of a character's limit breaks increases when they're using their ultimate weapon. There are some exceptions for Aeris, whose ultimate weapon has only seven connected Materia holders, does gain AP, and is not as powerful as one of her other weapons. Also, Cid's ultimate weapon is not as powerful as one of his other weapons.
