Koops
Timidity, thy name is Koops. Koops, a resident of Petalburg is generally the nicest, but shyest and most cowardly Koopa in town. Yet despite all this, he managed to get the only female Koopa in town, Koopie Koo, to fall in love with him. His goal is to be braver to impress her and to avenge his father, who was eaten by Hooktail. By pressing Y, you can stomp Koops, which launches his shell to retrieve objects or hit switches. You can also hold the button down to keep his shell in place, so Mario can move around before a switch is hit, for instance. If his shell hits an enemy, the battle will begin with his "Shell Toss" attack.

Execute a Stylish Move by pressing A just as Koops hits the enemy. Press A again as his spin is winding down to execute a second Stylish Move. |
Power Shell |

Koops launches his shell, attacking all enemies on the ground. |
Execute a Timed Hit by holding left until the cursor is on the star on the right end of the gauge. This increases the strength of the attack. |
Execute a Stylish Move by pressing A just after Koops stops moving forward (as he returns to his normal spot). Press A again just before he stops spinning to execute a second Stylish Move. |

Koops drops a shell on Mario, which will absorb a certain amount of HP for him before it breaks. |
Execute a Timed Hit by pressing A when the cursor is as close to the middle of the gauge as possible. Depending on how close you get it, the shell's HP will be anywhere between 2 and 8 HP. |
Execute a Stylish Move by pressing A just as the shell lands on Mario. |

Koops is tied for the lowest amount of HP of any party member. |
Koops can be flipped over, and left defenseless and unable to attack if an enemy jumps on him. |
Koops cannot attack airborne enemies at all. |
Koops can only attack the first enemy unless he uses an FP-consuming move. |
