Baywatch Walkthrough

Corak's Notes on Baywatch:

One dark day thunder shook the town of Baywatch and transformed it from a successful seaport into a haven for the undead. Large cracks appeared in the ground that were later called the Unholy Pits. No one knows the reason for this curse, but it is said a wealth of gold and possessions is to be had by any brave enough to descend into the pits.

Monsters in this area: Skeletons, Zombies. Boss: Ghoul.

Map of Baywatch:

The arrow indicates your starting position and facing, assuming you enter through the town gates.

The Inn.

The Blacksmith's Shop. This shop sells slightly better items than the one in Fountain Head. In the Weapons and Armor categories, the ninth item is a random one. In the Miscellaneous category, both the eighth and ninth item are random.

The Training Center. You can train here until your characters reach level 15. After that, you'll have to continue your training at another town.

The Tavern. When you refill your rations here, you'll have enough food for 10 days.

Albatross' Guild. You can get some pretty useful spells here, after you get membership of course.

The Temple.

The Magic Mirror.

Entrance to the Baywatch Cavern.

Assuming you entered through the town gates, you'll start at the main square of the town. There's Skeletons abound in this town, so watch your step. Although they're not too tough, the fact that they are undead is annoying: You'll find conventional weapons to be far less effective than usual.

The fountain of Athea, located in the center of the main square, has magical properties. Usually, when you toss in a coin, you'll just see the catchy phrase "Keep wishing", but if you do keep wishing (and tossing in coins), you'll eventually find that "Today is your lucky day!" When that happens, all your party members' Luck will temporarily be raised by 100!

Be sure to upgrade your equipment at the Blacksmith before exploring the other areas of the town. The road to the temple is blocked by some Skeletons, while the road to the guild is blocked by two Zombies, who have the annoying ability to cause Disease. But after clearing these out, you'll still need membership to the guild before you can buy spells there, so let's do that first.

Take a look at the map. The area in the northwest is called Travel Town. That's where you should go. Once again you'll find undead in your way, but it shouldn't be anything you can't handle. At the crossroads at the east end of Baywatch, you'll see a message on the wall: "To return and savor our seaport's fog, answer the glass with the word SEADOG." In other words, if you visit a Magic Mirror and speak the word SEADOG when asked for your destination, you'll end up in Baywatch.

Turn left to face north and go through the door. Take the first left and you'll see two desks. Behind the left desk you'll find Chozan the Seer. He'll sell you membership to the Albatross Guild at a price of 100 gold per character. It should be obvious that you should buy one for every magic user in your party. Behind the right desk is Oro the Ranger, who will teach a character Mountaineering for 5000 gold. Make sure to give this skill to at least two party members, so you can cross mountainous areas. You can get your money back quite easily: Just head back to the Fountain Head Area and search the mountains for treasure.

Now, go further on, through the second door, and turn left to find two more desks. Behind the left one is Darek the Explorer, who will teach a character Pathfinding for 2500 gold. This skill should also be given to at least two characters; this enables you to pass dense forests. Behind the right desk is Brother Alpha. He'll tell you that shells of great power exists, which belong to the nymph of the Great Sea, Athea, but were stolen by Blackwind the Spellbinder. He also says that Athea will give a reward of gold and song for their return. He claims that's all he knows of the legend, but that his brother Beta may know more. When he asks if you want him to let Beta know you're coming, say yes. He'll send a message to his brother and tell you to look for him in the caverns below the town. He'll also give you a mysterious trinket, a Quatloo Coin. "Finding Brother Beta" will be added to your list of quests.

Go back now through the two doors. You'll see another door up ahead, leading to the Unholy Hall. Only go through this door if you're confident in your ability to deal with undead: There's over a dozen undead in there, led by a Ghoul. Especially the Ghoul is extremely hard to beat without magic. It's not a very good idea to face this army without Turn Undead.

If you manage to clear out the plague of undead, you'll see three of the Unholy Pits in the room. From left to right: The Pit of Despair, the Pit of Doom, and the Pit of Desolation. A character that descends into a pit will be hit for physical damage and will be affected by the "Insane" status ailment. But the three pits do contain valuables: The Pit of Despair hides 5 random items, the Pit of Doom 2000 gold, and the Pit of Desolation 3000 gold.

If you take a look at the map, you'll se a small passage behind the Inn(4 on the map). There's some Zombies in this passage, as well as another pit, the Pit of Pestilence. There's a random item in there, but the character who descends into the pit will be hit for physical damage and be affected by the "Diseased" status ailment.

The last place to explore now is in the north area of Baywatch, where the entrance to the Baywatch Cavern is. In the small room south of the entrance, there will be another pack of Undead, but considerably less powerful than the one in the Unholy Hall. Step into the room after beating the undead and you'll see... nothing special really. But if you turn around you'll see two more pits. The left one, the Pit of Sorrow, holds 1000 gold, while the right one, the Pit of Shame, holds 100 gems. Decending in these will cause a hit for physical damage and Disease.

Congratulations, you've just defeated the last undead here; you've freed Baywatch from the undead plague. On to the next act of heroism! ...phew, I never thought I'd get through the entire walkthrough of Baywatch without cracking at least one David Hasselhoff joke. ;)
