B2 Walkthrough

Corak's Notes on B2:

The Valley of the Trolls is now inhabited by the Ogres that once pillaged Wildabar and all of Locust Grove. When the Ogres were driven to this new home, they forced the Trolls away. The only remnents of the valley's old inhabitants are two wise elders that live in the solitude of the mountains, where they reflect on the knowledge they possess.

Monsters in the area: Sprites, Ogres.

Map of B2

Fortress of Fear. You'll need the Yellow Fortress Key to enter.

Sprite Lair. Destroy it to stop Sprites from re-appearing in the area. All party members will gain 10000 experience for doing this. You will also get 5 random items.

Ogre Lair. Destroy it to stop Ogres from re-appearing in the area. All party members will gain 25000 experience for doing this. You will also get 5 random items.

Insect Shrine. Praying at this shrine will usually give you the message "You must donate at all temples!" So have each character donate at all five temples. After doing so, check the Awards of each character. There should now be an Award called "Blessed by the Forces" listed. When each character is blessed by the Forces, pray at this shrine to receive 5 random items.

Fountain of Nayarah. Otherwise known as the Fountain of Youth, drinking from this fountain will restore all party members to their natural age, removing the unnatural aging effects from a Phantom's touch, for example. Note that to make this fountain and the island it's on appear, you will first have to venture into the Pyramid of Storage to find the means of raising it. After drinking from the fountain, you will find yourself back ashore, where you will notice that a number of days equal to the number of characters in your party will have passed.

First of all, you can find a Create Food scroll in the small grassy plain in the northwest part of this area. Apparently due to a bug in the game, you can get this scroll again after using it, so take this opportunity to give the spell to all users of Clerical and Natural magic in your party. The scroll does disappear if you choose not to read it, though.

Now just take a stroll through the area, killing Sprites and Ogres along the way (not particularly hard enemies). Make your way over to the monster lairs (2 and 3 on the map) and destroy them.

With the monster lairs out of the way, the immediate threat in the area is removed and you can start collecting the treasures in the area. If you're already Blessed by the Forces, be sure to stop by the Insect Shrine. (see above)

The two huts on the map are occupied by Philtar and Guiltar, two wise men who will tell you more about the Moo Cult and the mages Blackwind and Greywind. The most interesting things you learn from them is that there are two Ultimate Power Orbs in the Cathedral of Carnage and that the thrones in the castles of Blackwind and Greywind work powerful magic, but only on each of the wizards' wedding days.

Now for the treasures you can collect in the area. I already mentioned a Create Food scroll earlier. There is another scroll in a section of the forest directly north of the Ogre's lair: A Cure Poison scroll. This one is affected by the same bug as the Create Food scroll: You can get it multiple times and it only disappears if you choose not to read the scroll. Don't search any other forest squares in this area, since that will trigger an acid trap.

As usual, there's treasure to be found in the mountain range. There are two spots with treasure there:

* One space south and one space west from the Fortress of Fear you'll find 5000 Gold and 50 Gems;
* One space north and three space west from the Ogre Lair is 3000 Gold and 5 random items.

One last thing. You may notice the many whirlpools in this area. Be careful not to step into one, as this will remove the effects of Walk on Water and transport you back ashore.
