B1 Walkthrough

Corak's Notes on B1:

In the mountains around Leper Canyon are many alcoves where adventurers of old hid their wealth before entering the cavern of the Cyclops King, and the way is very treacherous as there is a swarm of Oh No Bugs that inhabits the canyon. But the fight is worth the trouble, for there are mystical heads of granite to be examined.

Monsters in the area: Wild Fungi, Oh No Bugs.

Map of B1

Cyclops Cavern.

Slithercult Stronghold.

Wild Fungus Lair. Destroy it to stop Wild Fungi from re-appearing in the area. All party members will gain 5000 experience for doing this.

Oh No Bug Lair. Destroy it to stop Oh No Bugs from re-appearing in the area. All party members will gain 25000 experience for doing this.

Assuming you enter this area from the north-west (most people do), you'll soon see a dense forest, surrounded by Wild Fungi. They're not very strong, but their electrical attack hits all party members, so be careful. Battle your way past them until you reach thei lair at point 3 on the map, so you can be sure they won't bother you again after you beat them.

If you look at the map, you'll notice a clearing in the south-west forest. If you have pathfinding for two or more party members, and druids or rangers in your party, pass through the forest and enter the clearing. Clear out the Wild Fungi and check out the two Moai Heads standing there. One of them will teach a party member the Astrologer skill for 5000 gold. Only Rangers and Druids will benifit from this skill: It gives them +2 Spell Points per level (this includes 2 extra Spell Points whenever they gain another level). The other head will appear lifeless unless you have a Druid in your party. The Druid will be able to read the druidic inscription on the head saying "Gem donations accepted". Donating 1000 Gems will increase all the Druid's stats by 10, unless all his/her stats are already higher than 25. If a non-druid donates the Gems, the statue will just zap him/her. ;)

Further south of the clearing, hidden in the forest, is another one of those stone heads, which will state that you will be rewarded tenfold for leaving 500 Gems. Doing so will net you 5000 Gold and 5 random items. Not a bad deal, considering you usually have Gems to spare.

Next, head north into the mountain range shaped like a "4". Somewhere in this mountain range you will find 10000 gold and 5 random items. It goes without saying that you need mountaineering for two of your party members in order to be able to traverse the mountain in the first place.

If you're desperate for more treasure, there's a stone head inside the "4" which will give you an additional 10000 gold and 5 random items in exchange for 2000 Gems. That's a very steep price, though. I recommend against doing so unless you're drowning in Gems.

Lots more free stuff in the other mountain range as well. There are three spots with treasure there:

* One space south and one space east from the Wild Fungus Lair you'll find 7000 Gold and 70 Gems;
* Four spaces west from Cyclops Cavern is 5000 Gold and 5 random items;
* Six spaces south and one space east from Cyclops Cavern there's 25000 Gold and 50 Gems.

While getting these treasures, you've probably seen all the Oh No Bugs buzzing around. Passing through the mountain range, first go directly to spot 4 on the map and destroy their lair. Then kill any Oh No Bugs that get in your way, knowing that they will not return afterwards. Note that Oh No Bugs are fast, so they'll probably get to attack before you do.

Now, there are still a number of fountains and Moai Heads in the area I haven't mentioned yet. For example, just east of the mountain range shaped like a "4", there's the Fountain of Might. Drink from it to give all party members a temporary increase of 30 to their Might. If you encounter any doors or walls that you can't seem to be able to bash down, try again after taking a sip from this fountain.

Three spaces west and one space south from Cyclops Cavern, you'll find the Fountain of Quickening, which temporarily increases all party members' Speed by 30.

Easily the most interesting fountain to visit is the Fountain of Advancement, located at the small forested island in the lake. Drinking from it will increase all party members' level by 20 for the remainder of the day!

Finally, from the Fountain of Advancement, you can find one Moai Head by going one space west and two north, and another by going two spaces east and three south. The first will give all party members +50 to their Cold Resistance, and the other gives all party members +50 to their Fire Resistance. Both of these services cost a mere 100 Gold and lasts until the start of the next day.
