Items

There are four types of items in Castlevania 2. Whips, Secondary Weapons, Held Items, and Miscellaneous Items.

Whips

These are your main weapons with which you will combat Dracula's minions, used by simply pressing the B button. Note that, if you want, it's possible to skip a whip (that rhymes! :) and get the next one in the list instead. For example, I usually don't buy the Thorn Whip but go straight for the Chain Whip when it becomes available. The only exception is that you need to have the Morning Star in order to get the Flame Whip.

Whip Power Location
Leather Whip The weakest whip in the game. You start with it.
Thorn Whip Twice as powerful as the Leather Whip. Buy it in the Town of Jova for 100 Hearts.
Chain Whip Twice as powerful as the Thorn Whip. Buy it in the Town of Veros for 150 Hearts.
Morning Star Twice as powerful as the Chain Whip. Buy it in the Town of Ondol for 200 Hearts.
Flame Whip Twice as powerful as the Morning Star. Bring the Morning Star to a man living in a cave west of Bodley Mansion.

Secondary Weapons

These weapons are used by holding Up and pressing the B button. You first need to select the one to use from the bottom section of the menu screen. Some of these have unlimited usage, others use up Hearts when used, and still others come in limited supply.
