Mini Games

One of the great things about Super Mario RPG is the plethora of mini games that can be found...so without further ado: here they are!

Midas River

LOCATION

Ummm, Midas River?? ^_^

PRICE

30 Coins

DESCRIPTION

There are 100 Coins in the Midas River course, your mission (if you choose to accept it) is to collect as many coins as possible. The first 36 coins are in the waterfall part. By rapidly pressing 'a', you can swim up the river a bit. The last 64 coins are in the barrel jumping event. When your barrel hits another, you'll switch lanes, or you can jump to the next barrel. To get the maximum number of coins, follow this pattern: Hit, Jump, Jump, Hit, Hit, Jump, Jump, Hit, Hit...etc.

PRIZES

Depending on the number of coins you collect in a single run, you can trade in the coins you win for Frog Coins (plus, if you get all 100 coins, you'll win 5 bonus Frog Coins). Depending on your highest score, the number of coins needed for a frog coin goes down:
First Time: 60 Coins for a Frog Coin
69 and Under: 80 Coins for a Frog Coin
70-79: 75 Coins for a Frog Coin
80-89: 70 Coins for a Frog Coin
90-99: 60 Coins for a Frog Coin
100: 50 Coins for a Frog Coin
* Also, if you go to Midas River by the way of the bucket in Moleville, you get to keep all the coins you collected on the falls!

Goomba Thumping

LOCATION

Pipe Vault

PRICE

10 Coins

DESCRIPTION

The object is to jump on as many Goombas' heads as possible in 30 seconds. If you jump on a Goomba's head, you get 1 point. Jump on a Gold Goomba for 3 points. Jump on a Spikey and lose a point. The best strategy is to stay on 1 pipe, and jump on whatever comes out of it ('cept Spikeys of course).

PRIZES

To win a prize, you must meet or beat the current high score, which begans at 20 Points. When you get a high score, the score to beat becomes the score you got + 2. The first prize given is a Flower Tab, then a Flower Jar, and every additional prize is a Frog Coin (if you really want to cash in, stop thumping when you meet the high score! This will keep the score to beat low, allowing you to win a lot of stuff

Mushroom Derby

LOCATION

Yo'ster Isle

PRICE

Yoshi Cookies (however many you want to wager)

DESCRIPTION

This only becomes available after beating Boshi for the first time. You can either control Yoshi manually, or let the computer control him, leaving the race to chance. If you want to control him, press the 'b' and the 'a' buttons alternatingly, in tune with the rythm (I think this is hard, but apparently some people are pretty good at this).

PRIZES

The prize when Yoshi wins is Yoshi Cookies. The amount you get is dependant on the amount you wagered, and Yoshi's odds for winning.

Moleville Mountain

LOCATION

Moleville (only after rescuing Dyna & Mite)

PRICE

10 Coins just to ride, 30 coins to bet

DESCRIPTION

The same course you rescued Dyna & Mite on. The first part and third parts are in Mode 7, with lotsa turns to navigate, so use your brakes on sharp turns or you'll fly right off the course. The second and fourth parts are side-scrolling, and you don't have to worry about falling or turning or anything. Also, on the track you'll find mushrooms, that can give you a boost if you press 'a' (just like in Mario Kart). However, if in the Mode 7 area, be careful about using mushrooms if there's a turn nearby, or you'll fly off the track.

PRIZES

If you only paid 10 coins, there is no prize, it's just for fun. If you paid 30 coins, you can win 50 coins if you beat your best time on the track.

Beetle Mania

LOCATION

Mushroom Kingdom (after beating Yaridovich)

PRICE

500 Coins for unlimited play

DESCRIPTION

Later on in the game, you can by the boy in the Inn's game boy, and when you do, it opens up the 'game' selection on the menu screen. Beetle Mania is a shooter, much like Space Invaders or Galaxian, but...well, more forgiving. You play the role of a beetle, and shells start flying EVERYWHERE. You get points by shooting the shells that fill the screen. When a shell is destroyed, stars fly out, killing any shells they touch. By causing this chain reaction, you can build up points much faster. When hit by a shell, press 'a' rapidly to recover, but the more you are hit, the harder it will be to recover. Whenever you score a lot of points, a little heart floats down. By collecting these hearts, it makes it easier to recover your beetle when its hit.

PRIZES

Sorry no prizes here =(, but if you want a tip to get a high score, try this: hide in the lower left corner, and let the screen fill with shells. When it's full, shoot a shell and let the stars do the rest. The highest score possible is 99,999,999 (I think).

Booster Hill

LOCATION

Booster Hill (after beating Yaridovich)

PRICE

100 dollars for membership, 50 dollars per Beetle Box

DESCRIPTION

Buy a beetle box at Beetles Are Us in Seaside, and head to Booster Hill. You want to catch as many beetles as you can, and trade them back in at Beetles Are Us. Do this by jumping on the barrels, moving you closer to where you can jump up and nab them. Three kinds of Beetles can be caught: a female, a male, and once per run, a gold beetle appears. Each beetle is traded in for a different amount of money.

PRIZES

The Beetles are all worth different dollar amounts. Show the Snifit the beetles he caught, and he'll add up all he owes you. A Female beetle is only worth 1 lousy coin, a male beetle is worth 50 not-so-lousy coins, and a gold beetle is worth 1 certainly-not-lousy Frog Coin.

Sky Bridge

LOCATION

Land's End

PRICE

5 Coins

DESCRIPTION

The object is to cross the bridge, but while you're doing so, a cannon is shooting Bullet Bills, trying to knock you off! There are 3 modes. In Normal Mode, the Donut Blocks won't fall if you stand on them, and you can only fall off by being hit by a bullet. In Special mode, it's just like Normal mode, except the blocks fall if you stand on them for a while. Expert Mode is like Special Mode, except you can walk off the blocks, and you can over-jump or under-jump the blocks.

PRIZES

By crossing in Normal mode you'll get 5 coins, Special mode gives you 8 coins, and Expert mode gives you a Frog Coin. After crossing, you can risk your winnings double or nothing if you think you can cross again. You can do this up to twice.

Scale the Cliff

LOCATION

Land's End (after meeting Sergeant Flutter)

PRICE

Free

DESCRIPTION

The object is to jump off the Koopa Shells, and climb up the cliff. The shells will carry you over to the next one, but if you're impatient, you can attempt to make a leap for the shells as well.

PRIZES

If you make it up the hill in under 14 seconds, you'll have a 33.3% chance of netting a Frog Coin. The first time you make it in under 12 seconds will win you a Troopa Pin. If you make it up in under 11.49 seconds, you'll be guaranteed a Frog Coin. Make it in under 11 seconds and you'll win 5 Frog Coins.

Knife Guy's Juggling

LOCATION

Booster's Tower (later in the game)

PRICE

Free

DESCRIPTION

Knife Guy will juggle four balls really fast, and it'll be up to you to pick which hand the yellow ball is in. This is pertty easy, just pick the hand where the yellow ball last appeared. Knife Guy automatically keeps tracks of how many times you were right, but if you're wrong, he deducts a win from your total.

PRIZES

Each time you guess correctly, you'll win an item. Usually you'll win something stupid like a Wilt Shroom, or a Moldy Mush, or a Rotten Mush. But sometimes you'll win good stuff like Max Mushrooms or Royal Syrups. When you win 12 times (remember he deducts losses from your total), you'll win the Bright Card. 100 wins will win you a Red Essence.

Blackjack

LOCATION

Grate Guy's Casino

PRICE

1 Frog Coin

DESCRIPTION

It's Blackjack. You and the dealer get two cards to begin with. The object is to get as close to 21 as possible, without going over. You can draw as many additional cards as you want or stay with your current hand. The deck has no face cards, and the dealer wins on a Push (if you tie).

PRIZES

If you win you get 2 Frog Coins (the one you wagered plus another one).

LOCATION

Grate Guy's Casino

DESCRIPTION

You and Dr. Topper take turns taking coins out of a box. You can take as many as four coins out at a time when it's your turn. Remember to count the coins as they are taken out. To guarantee victory, simply make sure there is only 1 coin left on Dr. Topper's turn, you can do this when there are 16, 17, 18, or 19 coins taken from the box on your turn...just stop taking them out at 20. This opposite applies as well, so don't allow Dr. Topper a turn when there is 16, 17, 18, or 19 coins gone.
