Recruitable Monsters

All these monsters can be recruited after you talk to the Monster Gramps. Monster Gramps can hold a maximum of 50 monsters at any given time.

Borongo
Borongo is recruited in Alpaca and later in the Western Cave with Bianca's Ribbon.

Max Level: 99

Borongo is quite powerful, but he doesn't start gaining any skills until much later on in the game. Overall, he's a very useful character.

Level Skill/Spell
17 Charge Up
21 War Cry
33 Freeze Ray
40 Thunder

Attackbot (Robin, Killer, Junchi, Musashi)
Difficulty to Catch:
Very Hard
Max Level: 30

Attackbots are very powerful which makes it for their complete lack of Skills and Spells. However, their max level is rather low, which causes some problems- especially since you can't recruit them until the end of the game.

Big Eye (Gandalf, Eyeleen, Sachimar, Medakich)
Difficulty to Catch:
Easy
Max Level: 20

The Big Eye is a monster that I don't think is overly useful. They have a low max level, not very good Skills, and aren't overly powerful. I don't think that it's entirely worth getting them, but they are rather easy to recruit nonethless.

Level Skill/Spell
1 Healmore
1 Cold Breath
5 Build Up
8 Dazzling Light
10 Sweet Breath
15 HealAll

Blizzard Hawk (Blizzo, Hawk, Motchin, Torimaru)
Difficulty to Catch:
Hard
Max Level: 25

Blizzard Hawks actually have quite nice statistics though their max level is low. They're rather useful for a while though with spells such as HealUs considering they do more damage than Healers.

Level Skill/Spell
3 Defeat
3 Cold Breath
3 Freezing Breath
8 Strange Dance 3
15 HealUs
23 Sparkling Breath

Bomb Baby (Nitro, Bagpipe, Chiochio, Nannan)
Difficulty to Catch:
Easy
Max Level: 15

Bomb Babies are only good when you get them- and only good briefly at that. Their stats are above your current monsters' averages most likely when you first get them, but they level rather slowly. They become worthless after almost no time.

Level Skill/Spell
1 Sacrifice
5 Body Attack

Bombcrag (Rocky, Kaboom, Yonichi, Gansuke)
Difficulty to Catch:
Medium
Max Level: 20

Bombcrags take forever to level it seems. Their stats aren't worth the wait, plus, they overall just aren't very effective in battle. Sacrifice isn't worth what it entails either really.

Level Skill/Spell
5 Sacrifice
5 Charge Up
10 Body Attack
19 Farewell

Brownie (Brown, Bonk, Shigemar, Ton-ton)
Difficulty to Catch:
Very Easy
Max Level: 99

Brownies are decent- they has no spells or skills so they rely on physical strength alone. They have a limited selection in weapons which doesn't help too much either. Use them if you wish- I didn't find them very helpful after Reinhart.

Centaurus (Centas, Kaioh, Motosumi, Pakara)
Difficulty to Catch:
Easy
Max Level: 50

The Centaurus is definitely a good monster- having both Bikill and Barrier is exceedingly helpful since it negates the need for 2 different people to cast those spells later on. They also have HealAll making them even better. I highly recommend using themm.

Level Skill/Spell
3 Healmore
5 Burning Breath
9 Repel
15 Boom
20 Bikill
23 HealAll
27 Barrier

Curer (Curie, Curebert, Takarin, Behobeho)
Difficulty to Catch:
Medium
Max Level: 50

Curers are very useful, getting many of the very important healing spells such as Revive and HealUsAll. I'd recommend getting one and placing it in the Wagon if you don't want to use it in your main party.

Level Skill/Spell
2 HealAll
3 HealMore
8 Upper
10 Increase
12 Vivify
18 HealUs
23 Revive
30 HealUsAll

Dancing Jewel (Jewel, Richie, Yasu, Marilyn)
Difficulty to Catch:
Medium
Max Level: 7

Dancing Jewels' stats go up quite a bit with each level due to their low maximum level. They're useful for the Volcano near Salabona, but that's pretty much it.

Level Skill/Spell
2 Decrease
2 Confuse
2 StopSpell
2 Strange Dance 1
4 Absorb
5 Beat
6 Sleepmore
7 Aerocross

Dancing Needle (Danny, Capoeira, Mitihiko, Feiba)
Difficulty to Catch:
Easy
Max Level: 25

Though the dance attacks are rather interesting, that's about all Dancing Needles have going for them. The stats aren't too high, and none of the skills are really *that* useful.

Level Skill/Spell
3 Strange Dance 1
5 Strange Dance 2
10 Sleep Attack
15 Strange Dance 3
20 Numbing Attack
25 Body Attack

Dragon Pup (Doran Jr, Drasky, Pyon, Ribasto)
Difficulty to Catch:
Easy
Max Level: 30

Dragon Pups are decent- nothing to spectacular though. Their breath attacks will come in handy for a while though.

Level Skill/Spell
1 Fiery Breath
5 Sweet Breath
15 Flaming Breath
28 Violent Flames

Drakee (Drakichi, Lucky, Manabu, Miwaren)
Difficulty to Catch:
Very Easy
Max Level: 99

Drakees' are poor statistic wise. They don't get anything to fantastic spell wise either other than BeDragon. Their main advantage is that they don't have a max level.

Level Skill/Spell
5 Surround
10 Sleep
15 Day-Night
17 Strange Dance 1
20 RobMagic
22 Dazzling Lights
38 BeDragon

Eigerhorn (Eiger, Nero, Shinji, Ossan)
Difficulty to Catch:
Very Easy
Max Level: 50

Eigerhorns are definitely worth getting- they are very strong, have tons of HP, and just have nice stats all around. Their skills are very helpful- including War Cry. I highly recommend using an Eigerhorn in your party.

Level Skill/Spell
4 Firebane
4 Tornado
4 Snowblast
7 War Cry
9 Charge Up
11 Firevolt
13 Eerie Light
15 Blizzard

Eliminator (Emil, Decker, Minatar, Axeman)
Difficulty to Catch:
Medium
Max Level: 30

Eliminators are purely physical fighters. They learn one spell- Sap. Massacre, however, is much more of a danger than an asset. I don't recommend using Eliminators- there are much more useful monsters out there that can do more physical damage.

Level Skill/Spell
7 Massacre
20 Sap

Farewell Crag (Farwel, Cragg, Shigeyan, Iwao)
Difficulty to Catch:
Very Hard
Max Level: 20

Farewell Crags are the hardest monsters to catch- harder than even Metal Babbles. However, they just aren't very useful. Farewell is nice as a last ditch tactic- but that's it. Their stats aren't too spectacular either. You're better off with an Eigerhorn really.

Level Skill/Spell
3 Farewell
6 Body Attack
8 Bounce
10 Dazzling Lights
14 Vivify
20 Thunder

Gigantes (Giga, Gian, Yasuhiro, Gantes)
Difficulty to Catch:
Hard
Max Level: 7

Gigantes are powerful physically, but that's their only advantage. Their low max level reduces their use quiet a bit, as does their complete lack of skills. You get them very late in the game too when there are many more monsters that are better which you most likely have.

Golem (Golemath, Sander, Orion, Ishio)
Difficulty to Catch:
Easy
Max Level: 50

Golems are quite useful- they're strong enough to make a difference in the party, and they don't have a low max level. Plus their skills fit in well to their class.

Level Skill/Spell
8 Build Up
11 Charge Up
20 Meditate
45 Thunder

Great Dragon (Caesar, Drago, Trishi, Great D.)
Difficulty to Catch:
Hard
Max Level: 60

Great Dragons are definitely worth recruiting. They have all the breath attacks, plus their stats are amazingly good. Their attack power is just beautiful. If you can afford to spend time leveling them, they'll prove to be worth it.

Level Skill/Spell
3 Flaming Breath
10 Violent Flames
15 Freezing Breath
20 Burning Breath
30 Sparkling Breath
50 Infernal Flames

Healer (Healie, Healbert, Mr. Fuku, Genkichi)
Difficulty to Catch:
Medium
Max Level: 99

Healers are very useful monsters. They gain all the important healing spells so they'll prove to be useful. Since you can get them early, they'll be a very high level by the end of the game. I definitely recommend using one.

Level Skill/Spell
4 Heal
5 Repel
7 Healmore
10 Antidote
15 Numboff
20 Healall
25 HealUs
30 Vivify
36 HealUsAll

Hellbattler (Batler, Moses, Sugiyan, Hellbell)
Difficulty to Catch:
Hard
Max Level: 15

HellBattlers are nice due to their great skills. Their stats are also very good, but the main problem comes from the fact that you can only recruit them in the Bonus Dungeon. By this point, you generally already have a definite party formed out.

Level Skill/Spell
3 Explodet
3 Violent Flames
5 Firevolt
7 Bounce
8 Revive
11 Blazemost
13 Sparkling Breath
15 Infernal Flames

Hork (Smith, Robert, Kazuya, Ropes)
Difficulty to Catch:
Easy
Max Level: 30

Horks just aren't that useful. Their skills aren't powerful at all, and they can't use much in the way of equipment. I don't recommend them.

Level Skill/Spell
5 Lick
5 Poison Attack
10 Cold Breath
15 Tempting Dance
20 Poison Breath
25 Deadly Poison

King Healer (Heal Rex, Kingbert, Sadakich, Hitoshi)
Difficulty to Catch:
Hard
Max Level: 20

King Healers aren't as good as Curers or Healers- their max level is lower, and they have no way to heal only one person. Their skills are still rather useful though.

Level Skill/Spell
3 HealUsAll
3 RobMagic
5 Absorb
7 Barrier
10 Revive
14 Farewell
17 Chance
20 BeDragon

King Slime (King, Crown, Kazubo, Noririn)
Difficulty to Catch:
Medium
Max Level: 30

King Slimes are rather useful monsters with some interesting skills. I'd recommend getting one for some of their support spells such as Freezing Rays and Barrier.

Level Skill/Spell
3 Vivify
5 Increase
10 Barrier
12 Blazemore
15 Revive
18 Freezing Rays
20 Violent Flames
27 Blazemost

Kukkle (Kukkle, Pico, Kumimin, Netch)
Difficulty to Catch:
Easy
Max Level: 20

Kukkles learn some decent support spells, and are useful when you can first recruit them, but as time goes on, their usefulness diminishes.

Level Skill/Spell
1 Decrease
5 Suround
10 Sleep
13 Confuse
15 Expel
17 Increase
18 Curseoff
19 Stopspell
20 Bikill

Leaonar (Leo, Simba, Noboru, Ryan)
Difficulty to Catch:
Medium
Max Level: 30

Leaonar's aren't bad, but they're not particularly outstanding either. There are better monsters you could probably use.

Level Skill/Spell
5 Surround
9 Build Up
12 Decrease
15 Flaming Breath

Lionex (Raioh, Jonas, Devilra, Nex)
Difficulty to Catch:
Difficult
Max Level: 23

Lionexes are good monsters, but since you get them so late in the game, there are better monsters you could probably put into your party. But if you want to invest your time in developing a Lionex, you will have a powerful ally.

Level Skill/Spell
1 Aerocross
8 Eerie Light
14 Zap
20 Lightning

Mad Dragon (Madd, Ragond, Moritake, Ryuta)
Difficulty to Catch:
Easy
Max Level: 40

Mad Dragons are good, and they learn some useful offensive skills as they level up. Not a bad choice, but there are better monsters too.

Level Skill/Spell
6 Sweet Breath
7 Tempting Dance
8 Flaming Breath
10 Burning Breath
13 Deadly Poison
15 Violent Flames

Magician (Merlin, Melby, Yukinov, Jumon)
Difficulty to Catch:
Easy
Max Level: 99

Magicians are fairly good at, well you guessed it, magic. They have a large advantage due to the fact they don't have a level cap. Their spells aren't the most powerful, but they are still exceedingly useful.

Level Skill/Spell
3 StopSpell
3 Blaze
5 Firebal
12 Firebane
15 Robmagic
19 Blazemore
24 Absorb
28 Firevolt

Messala (Sala, Buffler, Satochin, Noririn)
Difficulty to Catch:
Easy
Max Level: 50

Messalas are all around useful monsters excelling in both physical and magical attacks. Their strength and nice level cap give them ample opporunities to grow. I recommend using one when you can get them on the way to Granvania.

Level Skill/Spell
3 StopSpell
3 Eerie Light
6 Beat
11 Sleepmore
14 Blazemore
20 Defeat
22 Curseoff
27 Freezing Breath
30 Blazemost

Metal Babble (Metalin, Briskly, Yubo, Metabab)
Difficulty to Catch:
Very Hard
Max Level: 8

Metal Babbles have absurdly good Defense and Agility, but they lack HP. They have some very impressive offensive spells and are worth catching if you wish to dedicate the time to catching one.

Level Skill/Spell
2 Firebal
2 Bang
3 Upper
4 Firebane
5 Boom
6 Firevolt
7 Farewell
8 Explodet

Minidemon (Minimon, Lucifer, Rikachi, Konomi)
Difficulty to Catch:
Easy
Max Level: 30

Minidemons have some strong spells later on, but they are not useful as a whole. Their low statsdefinitely don't make them worth time in investing unless you want Explodet- even then it cannot be used very often.

Level Skill/Spell
2 Blazemore
4 Lick
10 Confuse
13 Sweet Breath
17 Boom
20 Day-Night
23 Chance
25 Blazemost
28 Explodet

Nereus (Nereus, Ajapa, Jinji, Umijiji)
Difficulty to Catch:
Medium
Max Level: 50

A Nereus makes a very strong magic user and is much better than Magicians when it comes to a purely magical monsters. The amount you use magic determines how useful a Nereus will be.

Level Skill/Spell
3 SnowBlast
3 Tornado
6 Bounce
10 Return
12 Sleep
17 Vivify
20 Blizzard
23 Aerocross
40 Thunder

Orc King (Orcus, Macbeth, Yanaken, Kuukin)
Max Level:
30
Difficulty to Catch: Easy

Orc Kings have tons of HP and a large amount of strength too. Though they have some nice skills and spells, they aren't overly useful at the point in the game which they become available.

Level Skill/Spell
3 Vivify
6 Beat
8 HealUs
9 StepGuard
11 Revive
15 Defeat
20 Blizzard

Puppet Man (Puppeck, Poupee, Sinohara, Patton)
Max Level:
30
Difficulty to Catch: Easy

Puppet Men have some nice skills though they aren't very powerful all around. Their low max level interferes with them becoming overly powerful.

Level Skill/Spell
3 Strange Dance 2
6 Bounce
10 Strange Dance 3
15 StopSpell
18 Absorb
20 Repel
23 Tempting Dance
25 Tornado
30 Aerocross

Slime (Slalin, Slibert, Akira, Sasuke)
Max Level:
99
Difficulty to Catch: Very Easy

Slimes are poor fighters and not the best suited for magic either. Their main use is only for support magic.

Level Skill/Spell
7 Expel
10 Increase
15 Decrease
18 Outside
20 Confuse
25 Stepguard
30 Vivify
45 Eerie Lights
77 Meditate
99 Infernal Flames

Slime Knight (Pierre, Arthur, Chun, Taichi)
Max Level:
99
Difficulty to Catch: Easy

Slime Knights are excellent monsters. They can equip the Metal King Swords which you can get rather early making them absurdly good fighters for the beginning of the game. Couple that with their nice healing spells, and you're set for quite some time. I usually have one in my party the entire game.

Level Skill/Spell
3 Heal
3 Robmagic
5 Healmore
9 Antidote
12 Bang
18 Numboff
20 Healall
23 Boom

Soldier Bull (Bruto, Brawn, Yasunon, Manji)
Max Level:
30
Difficulty to Catch: Medium

Soldier Bulls are exceedingly strong and have a few useful skills such as Bikill and Charge Up. They can also equip a rather wide range of powerful weapons and armor.

Level Skill/Spell
3 Charge Up
5 Upper
10 Bikill
15 Decrease

Springer (Ringer, Spur, Mustang, Perro)
Max Level:
50
Difficulty to Catch: Easy

Springers are fairly good- they have nice attack and defense abilities, but their skill selection is very poor.

Level Skill/Spell
3 Decrease
3 Upper
7 Tornado
15 Aerocross

Wyvern (Wynn, Toby, Tetsu, Daizou)
Max Level:
60
Difficulty to Catch: Medium

Wyverns are excellent monsters having both good offensive and healing skills along with some helpful field skills. With a nice level cap, Wyverns can definitely make a good addition to the team.

Level Skill/Spell
3 Healmore
5 Cold Breath
10 Sleep
12 Outside
15 HealAll
18 HealUs
22 Freezing Breath
24 Return
28 SleepMore
31 Confuse

Yeti (Yeta, White, Mihomiho, Snowman)
Max Level:
40
Difficulty to Catch: Easy

Yetis are decent monsters- they have some nice skills and also a good balance of strength. It'd be nicer if better equipment could be put on yetis, but you most likely won't use them for very long anyways.

Level Skill/Spell
3 War Cry
5 Cold Breath
8 Sweet Breath
12 Build Up
15 Snowblast
20 Lick
22 Freezing Breath
30 Blizzard
