The Poet can be found in the Pubs in many cities.  In Pidona, he's in the Claudius House instead.  The only way to make him leave the party is to either get him completely killed or seal an Abyss Gate with him in your party.  Only right after doing that can you leave him in a Pub.

The Poet is a solid character all around and is a jack-of-all-trades.  However, he learns techs and masters them very slowly.  He'll gain very high HP and WP, but his attack skills get lag behind.  Whenever I've used him, he was a solid character in the party.
